The Qin can be considered intimidating to approach, especially without a prior relationship. The Qin appear serious, formal, and proper. They place great importance on traditional values. Patience, hard work, honor and social and cultural responsibility are all cherished by the Qin. They are reserved, calm, quiet, and upright. These traits result from the combination of Introversion, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging. As a result, they are often misunderstood.

The Qin are nomads. They lost their home planet and travel in bands establishing temporary communities and trading outposts. The loss of their planet has caused Qin society to place greater emphasis on traditional values, hard work, and cultural responsibility.

They respect the basiloe and work well with them but humanity makes them nervous because of to great a variability in the culture and values.

Their large eyes have nictating membranes that make them immune from temporary blindness related to flash bang grenades or nuclear blasts. They are also able to weld without proper eye protection. Their large ears give them superior hearing but their sense of smell and taste is poor. Their quisine runs the spectrum of bland to so spicey (so they can taste it) that other being can get hurt. Typically breakfast and lunch are bland dishes but social occassions or dinner will be the dishes with the "Qin Spice".

They are short at 1.37 meters. Older Qin starships reflect this hieght but newer purchases from Basiloe shipyards have greater head room required by the basiloe stature.

Their large eyes are able to see in low light and moonlight as well as humanity can see in daylight

Being nomadic traders they have an innate learned ability to haggle +10%

Special abilities

Toying with a +5 bonus to star ship engineering skill checks which also allows them to attempt star ship engineering skill checks unskilled- being a space nomad with a significant portion of your population living in starships and a "all hands on deck" cultural value means they all pick up a little engineering. and can fix things on ship. They are the Natural born ship technicians of the [Jedion Sector]

nictating membranes for immunity to flash grenades

Abilitity to haggle +10 % (improvable ability)

Scrath the low light sight ability as we only want 3

Qin Pronounced Kin

Physical Appearance and structure
Typical Qin are 1.37 meters tall and are bipedal with two arms. They are unique coldblooded and warmblooded hybrid biology able to switch their metabolism between moth to conserve enegy if they are able to bask in heat or sunlight. Both arms end in hands with 4 fingers a thumb and a vestigal 5th finger that is close to useless.

The coloration of their hairless skin varies between yellows, browns and muted reds. Their eyes are dark deep pools without obvious irises. The nose is rudimentary slits above their mouth.

Senses

Their vision and hearing is superior to humanity. Their tastes and sense of smell is poorer than humanity. Qin quisine runs from bland to spicy. Because their sense of smell and taste is so poor "Qin Spice" is so strong that a human consuming it must make a STA check or suffer 1-2 STA loss for 10 hours.

Speech
Qin voices are similar to that of humanity. Males have a high pitche almost squeaky voice where as the females tend toward a base sounding voice. Their mouth and lips handle any language humans can speak. Their own language is includes ear movements for inflection. Because other species cannot generally duplicate this channel of information the Qin are very secretive with their own language, only using it amongst themselves. They automatically learn their own, the local trade language and one other of their choosing.

Nice. It's been a while since someone created another new race to interact with.

Just curious what you pictured their home world to have been like?
With their ocular adaptations is seems like it would have been a world of contrast.
With it being really dark, so their hearing improved and they have large eyes to gather what light is available.
Yet the ability to react to changes in light from darkness to extreme brightness leaves me wondering if it
either has periods of intense solar flares or volcanic plumes. The poor taste and smell might help with the sulfur
from volcanic activitry.
Cogito ergo sum; I think therefore I am.

[Blade Runner]
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

Good points. It's alwasy good to think about the home planet where a race originates from. Those details get left out from a lot of fan-created races.

So a Dim homeworld, where their eyes and ears compensated.

brown dwarf with a tidally locked planet close enough to pick up enough heat to be habitable but the star is not putting out enough light?
