In the timeline during SW2 it says:

84 FY Task Force Cassidine sails for Solar Minor.
86 FY Task Force Cassidine joins Strike Force Nova around Solar Minor. Four months latter the Cappellan Free Merchantmen transport Landfleet to Solar Major and Solar Minor fleets.

Does it really take 2 years to sail across the Frontier?

Full Maser Mesh weighs 10 kg? Seriously who's going to lug that?
Part. Maser Mesh weighs 5 kg? Seriously who wants to lug that?

Explorer boots: 8 kg?
Explorer Vest: 3 kg?
a Plasti-poncho: 3 kg
and the Suc-Set being a climbing tool that covers the hands, elbows, knees and boots and it weighs 10 KG?

Damn, I suddenly dont want to use the encumbrance rules.

Yes, you've come up with some weighty critiques.

And, I suppose Task Force Cassidine was on some sort of interstellar cruise... or maybe they misjumped and couldn't find their way back... sort of like Star Wreck Discontinuity... um, Star Trek Discovery...

@ JCab747- its just more timeline mistakes. I just dont think the author was really thinking when he wrote that. a fleet getting lost in a discontinuity warrents a comment in the timeline.

Stuff happens to fast in warefare. Any Admiral that took 2 years to get on station when at best it should have taken months would have been replaced.

Please don't get me started on Zeb's...
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

We just added a O. to those weights - so Explorer boots are 0.8kg etc. Can't remember what we did about maser mesh. Suc-set was a kilo. The timeline was one of the few things from Zeb's we didn't use, although generally it was interesting.

Power Read skill .... a skill that lets you determine how much power a power clip or battery has, or if it is damaged. I want to max out that skill...

Yeah. I guess they don't have power meters in 111 FY.

Yep, the analog meter on my 20th century battery charger tells me how much power my car batteries have when I connect the leads. Funny thing, it also reads "full" when it's finished charging. $29.99 at WalMart in 1997. Same technology existed in the 1980's. I can't imagine why such a gadget doesn't exist in the future...it begs the question as to exactly how is the skill established? Maybe it belongs in the Mentalist abilities?

Also, as a gamer/player, why would i want to spend hard earned XP on such a skill... so many much more useful skills to invest my XP in to

A Long shirt of chainmail weighs 22lbs = 10kg
https://www.ironskin.com/faq-chainmail-weight-and-cost/

The Wiki or Zebs states:
Maser mesh is used to protect against maser attacks. It resembles chainmail and can be purchased in different sizes.Partial maser mesh, similar in size to a long shirt, is lighter and harder to trace than full mesh, but only absorbs half the damage from masers.Full maser mesh, which almost touches the ground, is heavy and a bit cumbersome.
----
Explorers Vest, I assume it is like a tactical vest.

https://tacticalgear.com/leapers-utg-547-law-enforcement-tactical-vest-black-left

Although here it weighs only 3 1/2 lbs not 6 1/2 like it does in SF.

----

Plasti-poncho 3kg or 6.6lbs, I guess that disposible plastic in SF is really heavy.

----

Suc-Set 10kg or again 22lbs

well I found this;

https://rappelinfo.com/rappelling-gear-weight/

"somewhere between 11 and 16 pounds (5 and 7 kg). This essential setup includes your carabiners, belay device, rappelling rope, a knife on a lanyard, a set of rap rings, webbing, and a hiking backpack. "

Some things are close and others are off by a bit. Then again when SF was made, they didn't have internet search to find weights of things so I imagine they improvised to the best they could.

They must have used the KISS formula.

Cogito ergo sum; I think therefore I am.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

Yeah, I'll pass on the 3 kg plastic poncho and just use a plastic trash bag like I did on my 50 mile hike in the Boy Scouts.

Modern motorcyle rain gear weighs in at about 3 pounds (1.3kg), I'm pretty sure technology wasn't terribly different in the mid-80's in that regard so yeah, they're way off.
