JCab747 April 22, 2016 - 9:24am | For some time I've been struggling with trying to create a better timeline for my Star Frontiers campaign. I've read some of the other comments about the one presented in Zebulon's Guide to the Galaxy and agree that there are faults with it, but some gems that are useful. Mostly the faults lie with how the Zebs timeline destroys the sense of how the modules were supposed to be used. For example, the Volturnus series was written as though the characters are supposed to know that the Sathar exist, but Zebs place Volturnus before the beginning of the First Sathar War. And, of course, Zebs didn't clear up the question: Where are the home worlds of the Core Four races? Then I came across this Alternity Project including OnceFarOff's Jump Nexus idea and started looking more into this other sci fi game that TSR had released. An Alternity fan website gave a history of the game, especially the Star*Drive version. I then wanted to incorporate a bit of the "history" from the 2001 and 2010 space odyssey modules -- hopefully without violating any copyrights of the Issac Azimov estate -- plus the (somewhat inane) history presented in the Trouble on Janus module that talked about the early exploration of the Frontier and things like "Centralization" and the "Laterial Federation" or the "Free Trade Federation." So, I'd like to start posting some Alternity/Star Frontiers Timelines here -- starting with a Human-only perspectie -- and see what anyone else thinks. Joe Cabadas |
Tchklinxa April 23, 2016 - 12:05pm | Argh, everything I wrote vanished... so a smaller version: Well I like the time line, inclusion of SO is nice, a more gritty past for race relations is also a plus and a direction I am moving towards as well. I am going to try and include some ideas from SE's time line and maybe GW. I will have to do some more poking at Alternity as a resource. The Nexus terminology you mentioned is also found in SE. Most time lines are human centric, I want to eventually have the Core 4 in my setting all to have their own time lines and systems for time at least up till the FY1, because I apparently want to drive myself insane. We can never have enough time lines! LOL "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |

We can never have enough time lines! LOL I do hate it when the computer freezes and loses work. I'm trying to work on a Yazarian timeline now... when I can... I'm trying to figure out what others have called the Yazarian home world. An early Star Frontiersman issue hae a history of the Gruna-Garu system starting with the line: "Yazarians from Pavor discovered Gruna Garu in their burgeoning exployratins beyond their own world early on..." So, is Pavor the system name? Is Yazaria the world name? I'm going to go with the idea that others have given that practically the whole Yazarian race evacuated their home world because a brown dwarf went through their system and disrupted things. If that's the case, it can't be super far from the Frontier. So it could either be where the Beta plague world is, or somewhere just off the western edge of the Frontier map (if we use 2-dimensional thinking). In any case, its got to be within jumping range and there's probably some Yazarians still eeking out an existence there. It's another far flung world to investigate and detail... And the nexus bit, if you saw my note, wasn't my idea either though I was originally leaning toward the black monolith as a "star gate." Not to be confused with one of my favorite Sci Fi movies and tv series. Joe Cabadas |
Tchklinxa April 23, 2016 - 5:18pm | I decided to start the new Yazarian Calendar with their Exodus and making it to their first colony site in my setting, I have a lot of work to do on my mess of notes... and a mess it is. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
