Thyrann

OK, I finally found the original Thyrann article from the defunct Star Frontiers 654 website.  The theme of that site (and its creator's campaign) was a future Frontier, many years from the "present" Frontier.  So the Thyrann can theoretically be added to any existing campaign as a species beyond the boundaries of the known Frontier.

I have played them in my own campaign for years.

I'll post the article first, then scan in the illustration when I get a chance.

I like your sketches, but I also like the original.  I do tend to think of them as "walking komodo dragons", so maybe something close to the original is OK.

By the way, KRingway, I was noticing that your art reminds me of Mobius' style.  There are some stylistic elements that evoke Jean Giraud.  Have you been told so before?

Here's a quick doodle before I turn in for the evening:

Not that I recall directly. I've been a professional concept artist for many moons now, and I expect various influences have been swimming through my brain Wink

Several of these can work since we are not dealing with a clone race they should have as much diversity in appearance as humans on Earth do. Just remember to allow legitimite evolutionary reasons for differences.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Here's a better version. The one I created yesterday had various proportional problems...

Here's a few doodles of some details - a hand, and a close-up of the eye with the protective membrane closed. With the hand, I've added some small 'horns', my rationale being that perhaps these are very flexible and help with finer manipulation. As for the membrane, I was wondering whether no two are alike and it's one way the Thyrann identify each other and is therefore closed briefly before one speaks to another...

The new Star Frontiersman features a very Thyrann-like alien.

Does it satisfy your itch, or at least give you what you need to round out your information?

Ah yess, the Thyrann I remember working on that with Jason. Jason Bise is the original creator. I was using the Thrynn from the Starflight game and just helped flesh out the species a little bit. In regards to the original image, it was something I found on the net in the early days. Not being an artist myself, I just used something that I could find and images of space-faring lizards were few in those days; honestly, I don't think I could find any others at that time.

Nice to hear about the original creator, Neoproxy.  I've used the Thyrann for years, so I guess I should say, "Thanks"!

I recently came into posession of a copy of the Other Suns rpg, and lo-and-behold, what should greet me on page 70 of book 1, but the original Thyrann illustration!  It turns out that the picture was drawn for a species known as the Uquoi.

Ironically, they are described in the text as "bipedal komodo dragons".

Oh, and they are warm-blooded.
