It seems that Malcadon's thread: http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/7758#comment-32418
is being hi-jacked into a major disccussion on the setting background

much of it focuses on dealing with the homeworlds and justification for being out of contact.

Idead keep surfacing at the edges of my mind for adventure hooks involving them thus the reason for a new thread rather than hi jack that one further.

So far in fan cannon these ideas have been floated:

Yazirians
1. yazirians are religious dissenter fleeing their homeworld much like Pilgrims on the Mayflower, (do yazirians celebrate Thanksgiving with stuffed wyvole?)
2. Star Exodus to save their civilization from destruction by a wandering brown dwarf that looked to destroy their homeworld. this option eliminates the homeworld altogether which might be a good thing with such an aggressive race. There is potential to go back and see whats left: frozen, airless, lifeless planet? are there still yazirians living underground in sealed vaults like morlocks?

Humanity
1. most of the fan offering I've seen go the route of gamma dawn/gamma world- home world is destroyed somehow and is now a post apocalyptic setting.
2. its still there and with great effort Frontier citizens can visit but Asimov's laws of Robotics are in place there and there is great potential for PCs to accidently violate these laws with their robots when one of their robots actually harms a human-
3. I like leaving it a mystery as to what happened to it- which is simple and allows you to do anything you want with it at a latter date.

Vrusk & Dralasites
Not much out there that I'm aware of involving them. I wrote Terledrom as the vrusk homeworld in my timeline and the dralasite homeworld as lost to the dralasites in my timeline article. I like iggy's corporate facist state of the vrusk home world causing some trade houses to immigrate to the Frontier while the corporate facists say good riddence to small irritations in their quest for total control. That is not to say that as things mature in the Frontier that the Corporate Facist wond come calling and reconsider writing off the Frontier as not worth the trouble to develop. They could declare that all vrusk colonies belong to them and assert control and ownership of them. this could lead to a "Hive War" with lots of KHs action.

As for dralasites-?
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Also of potential for adventure hooks is the discovery of other yazirians, dralasites, humans who were simply another expedition sent out from home world and got stranded in system X- they know nothing of the Frontier and feel their alliegence is more toward their homeworld.

I'm rifting on a idea of the dralasite home world under attack by the sathar and a refugee ship arrives bringing world. another primarily KHs campaign but the story is basically a rerun of what we did with the new look at the saurians.

Thanks for creating a new thread.  I was really feeling guilty posting off topic.  Sorry Malcadon.

Well that thread was really about vision for the game so i dont think the discussion was all that off topic resolving the details of the home world issues. This thread is intended to be more about actual adventures set in or connected to the home worlds.

Idea: working title- "Tales of a Lonely Solar System"

Sort of a dust off of this project :
http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/5671

and a revisit of the setting in the modules 2001 and 2010

Lots of Asmiov and others to raid for ideas but setting incorporates just the Solar system but could expand for a campaign involving the scouting of Alpha Centari and its colonization.

The temptation would always be to introduce alien artifacts and lost aline ruins on Ganymede but you could simply keep the action political and intrigue. Or allow for the alien artifact angle which figured some prominently in 2001

Don't worry, what is being address there is far too interesting to really be "off-topic." I always like to hear about how people approach their SF game, and historical background (and even cultural flavor) is just as good a subject matter as the matter of play-style.

(I think I originally made that post out of a growing frustration with aspects of the game, based on the wide assortment of sources - mostly form having to sort through them all for the sake of the SF Wiki.)

I pretty much stole Jedion's entire historical background for my setting:

A colony ship convoy accidentally discovered void travel while the crew wan in cryo. Once they realized what was going on, they were in another galaxy or the like.

The Yazirians had a brown dwarf pass through their system and destroy their world.

The Vrusk are from the frontier, and the Drals are refugees from somewhere else - yet unknown.

I actually expanded on this a bit as well - there were yazirian refugees who tried to get to the frontier but misjumped - they ended up forming a colony off the map - my players ended up finding them while doing deep space recon and had to engage a new alien species in order to help them.

Do we have a timeline project where everyone can post their work, compare and contrast,  and group problem solve?

That might be helpfull, plus assemble a document in the documents section that would list all the problems identified in the timeline.this would become a refference tool for dealing with timelines.
