jedion357 June 2, 2013 - 5:11am | Galactic Task force and MerCo fight the first post-SW2 corporate war over settlement rights on a moon orbiting Alcazzar in the Rhianna system. Hostilities quickly spread to include all seven of Alcazzar's moons and over a half dozen mega corps. The corporate wars begin in earnest. interesting comment Some points that draw my attention: that only the moons are involved? why? Clearly CDC and STreel had the dust up portrayed in the classic module so why is this conflict only centered on the moons? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and state that like Zebulon became a UPF territory and had an appointed governor the same happened with Rhianna system. that the UPF and the COW have taken over custodianship of the primitives on Rhianna and that the policy of the governors has been to allow mega corps to exploit the moons but not the planet. of course the oddities of the rotation of Alcazzar play into this making it piss all difficult to establish a permanent base on the planet where the local populations migrate constantly at the equator to stay in the areas where sunlight is on the planet. Its essentially a year long migration thus permanent settlements are frozen in for most of the year. With rampant and barely police mega corp activity on the moons you could get a situation described in the timeline. iggy June 2, 2013 - 4:02pm | I had pondered on the moons being the subject of all the corporate activity and not the planet. I had attributed it to the difficulty of building on the planet. A building on the planet would have to deal with furnace heat, hundred(s) of degrees below zero, and the transistions between the two which would entail the ice melting into ocean, the ocean receeding and plants forming, the plants flurishing into jungles, the jungles drying out, the deserts taking over, then the great burning summer. After the summer as the sun wains it cools and some plants begin to return as colds form from weather patterns that follow the terminator. The colds bring rains and dormant plant life flurishes for a season. Then the rains turn to a torrent that doesn't stop and the ocean reforms. Ocean life enjoys the time traveling traveling between the spring and fall oceans. Then the ocean freezes for the winter and the process starts over again. The extream changes in the environment are constantly reshapping the landscape and buildings would be easily destroyed. Moving buildings would be constantly onthe move as are all other life on the planet. I had never thought of the UPF and COW limiting access dure to some directive to not tamper with the intelligent natives. I can go for that on a case by case basis but not a a general rule because that is too much like the Prime Directive. -iggy |
jedion357 June 2, 2013 - 4:22pm | I think rattraveller makes a good point about the UPF being a confed and that this sort of thing requires a vote. Also I like the idea of Streel playing dirty after it loses the mini corporate war depicted in the module and having lobbyist and paid for polliticians pushing a vote to establish a new territory on the pretext of protecting the primitives from the evil encroachment of dastardly mega corps- when the vote succeeds CDC loses control of the system and all mega corps are allowed to develop resources there though the governor has decreed on on planet development because he's taking his position seriously. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
iggy June 2, 2013 - 10:30pm | So Streel thought they had it all worked out but their puppet governor hasn't figured out that he is supposed to ignore the rules when Streel is concerned. Now he starts to push Streel too even after they helped him get the office so in the long run Streel will frame him for some native atrocity and get another Governor installed. -iggy |
jedion357 June 3, 2013 - 10:29am | Thats sort of the story I'm going with for Jamison as the first governor of Zebulon. Being a hero and commander of the ground forces he's a shoe in to be appointed as governor in zebulon. He wont give two spits about playing nice with megacorps but rather take his job and responsibility serious. It of course rubs the corps the wrong way and leads to him moving on to a new position somewhere else. As for Alcazzar i think if the governor tells the mega corps to do what they want off planet that most will be ammenable after all planet side environment has its challenges. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
iggy June 3, 2013 - 10:38am | But the governor chosen for Alacazzar is the second experience for the mega-corps and they think they have learned their lesson with Jamison so the get who they think will be a puppet. However, this guy sees this as an opportunity and acts as Jamison demonstrated. Then they get him ousted to get someone they can influence. They will want to land on Alacazzar from time to time. -iggy |
