What would be cool, if it existed, if someone had the ability to code it would be a utility program that would allow you to put in KHs stats for a ship and it would kick out Game sats on the programs required for that ships computer with their program level, the computer's total function points and level.

Where there are option it like Communication it would recomment level 1 but a user could imput a higher level if he thought it was called for. Same with all the other AD computer programs. the Utility would update comptuer level and functions automatically and export the data as a text file or allow for copy and paste.

yeah that would be cool and handy.

Utility program for ship construction is possible. I have one but it does not go into deep details, just the hull, engines, weapons, and defenses, it wouldn't take too much to include the rest. However, it is hard coded and I would like to build it to accept simple scripting or at least an editable text file so, changes and/or additions can be made to it. Is that what you are looking for?  The current version only does text to the console.
Please, anyone can chim in on this to find out if there is a demand for it. If there is, I will complete it and upload it for everyone.

I was thinking how handy it would be if you could take a Khs stat block for playing the board game and enter it and the program would kick out the names of programs and their minimum level required for that ship as well as having options to include some of the AD computer programs if you wanted to include say a entertainment program on a star liner. it would then spit out the total function pts for the computer and a list of programs and the computer's level based on the function points.

Where it would be useful is when you are working up an adventure that happens to take place on a ship you could enter the ship's data and it would provide you with a list of programs in the computer and the computer's size.

Computer size or level is of course important for when PCs attempt to used their computer subskills on it.

It would save a lot of time and flipping through the KHs book IMO.

I hate the KH system for designing so much! I get such a headache trying to build a simple ship, and the limitations feel so arbitrary and counter-intuitive!

I found a better system in Stars Without Number. It dose not waste your time with installing a lot of trivial junk like intercoms and portholes, but it lays out a ship with a basic hull type, with all of the basic/necessary equipment installed, and with free slots (power-use, cargo space and hardpoints) to install additional equipment and features. It would work like taking the different ship types from the basic KH tactical rules, stripping them of all their weapons and defensive systems, then adding slots to allow players to mount their own desired stuff on them. The games also notes civilian hulls like Shuttles, Free Merchants and Bulk Freighters (although, I would personally add Colony Ship to the list, classed as a Capital Ship in size).
