Planning to integrate the Verge

I looked throughout the projects and couldn't find a better place to put this so hopefully it's ok. I'm planning on incorporating the Alternity worlds into my campaign setting and figured on discussing it here to

1. Get some feedback
2. Share my ideas in hopes of helping others out.

I uploaded a map I made showing the location of the Verge in relation to the Frontier.

More to come.

So for starters - the inspiration for my future setting plans has come from some great threads and projects here. One of them was: SF Without The Sathar and UPF. Another one was Tetrarchs moving civilizations like chess pieces. I like the UPF setting, but as my kids are completing the original modules, I'm looking ahead. I plan on building up to SW2 across the frontier and having the Sathar beat back, and in the process revealing some new clues. The big one will be that the Tetrarchs used a technology called a Jump Nexus to travel vast distances quickly ala SG-1. The PCs and the UPF will discover that the Sathar were using a pair of them-one near Capella and one near Liberty to travel and coordinate their attacks on the Frontier and Rim.

To get to this point, I had to put together a thumbnail sketch of the Tetrarchs and the timeline around their decline until present. In short - the Tetrarchs had a ton of these devices, and with high tech FTL drives an entire corner of the galaxy was their playground. They seeded life on thousands of worlds, accelerating some like the Clikks, Eorna and Fraal. Some they left alone to develop more slowly like the core four and the Sathar. When the Clikks rose up against them, the Tetrarchs deactivated key control points in the Jump Nexus system that effectively cut off sectors of space from one another to minimize the spread of the Clikks. The key factor will be that some Jump Nexus are functioning, but they only work up to a certain distance from their local control Nexus. So travel within a sector is possible, but not between them. This is an important part of how I plan for the Alternity Core Worlds to travel to the Verge.

So as the post SW2 frontier uses the Jump Nexus they discovered to drop some nukes on a couple of Sathar core systems, there is going to be a freak accident. Perhaps the Eorna have an ancient control device that sends the PCs to a different gate, one in the middle of a different region of space. Whatever the cause, the PCs will find themselves in the Verge.

For the Alternity setting, I'm planning on PL7 tech, and using the Campaign Book's Hyperspace model as the solution for FTL travel, instead of Starfalling. I figure there is another level of subspace besides the Void, and the Alternity races travel in that medium, allowing longer distances (30-40ly max) and faster speeds (3-4 ly per day). This will be key to the PCs someday being able to return home and take part in introducing the Fontier to the Verge.

Anyways, enough typing for now. I put a little more detail in this thread here in the Alternity project.

Sounds great!

As a fan of Alternity, I am always interested in any use of the system or setting.  Good luck, and keep us posted!
