It's a death match no one should miss!
w00t vs Larry Elmore

Saturday

SATURDAY

SATURDAY

I'm sitting down with Mr. Elmore this weekend. I have some boxed sets I'd like signed in addition to getting that interview for the 30th Anniversary I promised. I have a few extra SF material, if you liked something signed then I can exchange a signed copy for your copy. Most of my stuff is well-used, I can't promise you a better copy, FYI.

Interview: What do you want to ask/know?

Basic outline I would recommend is:
 I. about star frontiers and his involvment on the project

II. Advice for aspiring artist getting published and landing work

III. about the early days at TSR and how he landed there, push for an interesting story about Gygax. I would not bring up the name of the witch that killed our favorite RPG as she was primarily responsible for the fiction division that made so much money and kept artist like Elmore painting covers as he may just have good feelings about her keeping him busy with work but if he brings her up and or the demise of Star Frontiers then ask a question to get him to elaborate on it.

On SF:
A. how did you come to be involved in the Star Frontiers project?
B. Were you involved in any of the creative process to actually develop star frontiers material?
C. how did you bring the stunning vision that graced the cover of the AD box to life?
(note bouble check the modules, and pick your path books to identify any other Elmore art-as the interviewer you should be aware of all the stuff that he did concerning SF- plus read the wikipedia article on him and know something about his background)

D. When working on a project do you do test sketches and did you do any for SF material? Do they still exist? and if so can we publish them in the SFman?

Were there any other Science fiction projects you worked on over the years that we might not be aware of?

Advice on for artists looking to break into publishing?

How did you come to be at TSR?

What interaction with Gary Gygax did you have? Any interesting stories about him?

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Thanks Tom, I'll have to print this long post out. Very specific. Tongue out lol

We all love Gygax, Elmore inspired my Star Frontiers imagination. I'd like to hear more about Larry than Gary. Wink

Thank you, I might even get him on video (I've been recording some product demos for BBF). I've had the pleasure of chatting and drinking with Elmore. I doubt he remembers me but that's OK, it's just amazing when you get to meet the creators of the game we love. I've been in contact with Steve Winter as well and hopefully his project will be completed for us before the 30th A runs out!

Hey, I named dropped. w00t! Foot in mouth

I'd love to find out if he knows what happened to the original of the image that is on the cover of KH.  And if he has it if he ever plans on doing a print of it like he did the AD cover image.  I'd love to have a matched set Smile.  Actually that question would be good for either of the module covers he did as well (Mission to Alcazzar and Mutiny on the Elanor Moraes)

I agree but my point is that with many of the founders of the hobby passing on if you do get a chance to get one on record it really behooves you to try to get an incite to the founding of the hobby while it is still possible to do so. And its just one question.

For answers to this and publishing in the RPG, cardgame and boardgame industry, we have panels that cover a wide range of topics. The sudo-name this Con is "from concept to publication".

w00t, If you get that interview, I will clear out a spot in Issue #19 for you. If not, we can drop into #20 and still make the 30th deadline. Keep me posted.

you really should ask about this, I know that i have a drawing pad full of test sketches, and if he did anything for SF that we haven't seen it would be cool to see it.
