History/ Origin of the Family of One
The greatest vice of the yazirian race has been clan conflict and sometimes outright war. Only when the Imperial Warhon united 90% of the planet did an age of scientific advancement come to the planet Yazira. If that age of science and learning had not come the yazirian race may not have saved itself from the rogue brown dwarf that passed through its star system.

The discovery of the brown dwarf and its almos certain destruction of the planet Yazira led the Imperial Warhon to send out scout ships to seek a new home. When the full truth of the coming disaster leaked to the general population there was a brief resumption of clan violence. However, a select group of yazirian philosophers developed philosophy that took ideas that every yazirian ascribed to its clan and ascribed these values to the whole race. The imperial court supported this new philosophy and used it to mobilize the population behind the effort to boot strap their fledgeling space program into an interstellar star exodus to save their race and civilization. From this was born the philosophy of the Family of Yazira or Family of One with the core belief that all yazirians are in the fight for survival together.

With the warhon's support the philosophy took root and was taught in schools. It had not yet taken on religious authority. When the scientifically focused clan that spearheaded the exploration for a new system and the terraforming of the new planet to be recreated into the image of Yazira discovered they were not alone in the galaxy but that there were other species such as humans, vrusk and dralasites, it changes its imperial mandate.

It redirected the second, third and fourth waves of the Star Exodus to new but poorly terraformed planets. It also sought to suplant the imperial court by seizing control of the colonial effort. It latched onto the popular new philosophy which had proven powerful in controlling all the clans and focusing them in the endeavor of racial survival. Clan Anglan made itself the clergy of this new racial religion. It was also rumored that they sabotaged the ship transporting the Imperial Warhon, his court and personal body guard. In the absense of imperial authority and with the Ark of Yazira (a gene bank of all lifeforms from Yazira) in its possession Clan Anglan became the de facto government of the yazirian colonies.

The other colonies did not rock the boat initially as they were gravely dependent on Clan Anglan for terraforming fo their planets. Clan Anglan used this fact to lord it over them as well. The events of the First and Second Common Musters and the organization of the United Planetary Federation was an openning for the other yazirian colonies to assert some independence. However Clan Anglan has used its strangle hold on terraforming technology, control of the Ark of Yazira and the religious belief in the Family of One philosophy to strengthen its control on the other yazirian colonies while dreaming of the day it becomes a multi system star nation exerting its control of yazirians everywhere.

Its core theology is The Four Wings
Wing One: All Yazirians are One Family
Wing Two: The Garden of Yazira will be recreated on Yazira blessed worlds.
Wing Three: Yazira sent the star demon (the rogue brown dwarf) to punish the sin of clan war and only the righteous escaped the destruction of the planet Yazira.
Wing Four: Yazira has appointed the yazirian to inherit the galaxy. It is therefore the mission of the Family to recreate the galaxy in the image of Yazira. The Galaxy will experience the true oneness Yazira intended when it becomes the Garden of Yazira

Because the theology is summed up in four wings; One of the emblems of the Fo1 is two heck'nor in flight, a name that literally means clawed avian. (see this thread: http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/5259 ) The heck'nor is the predator of Yazira's skies and is an apt symbol for the Family of One as it has a bit of an aggressive agenda. The emblem or symbol is two heck'nor within a circle in a Yin Yang orientation to each other.

Other Key beliefs:
1. Clan War is a sin.
2. Resisting the will of Yazira is a sin and this is done by resisting the will of the Family of One's leadership and by extention resisting the will of Clan Anglan. Over time the Family of One has taken the stance that questioning its leadership is close to apostacy and views colonies like Exib that have given up on total recreation of the Garden of Yazira on their planetary body as being reprobate and apostate. Exib simply is poor and cannot pay the extortionate fees of the GODco and the Family of One and its Council of Clans has simply decided to harmonize with the existing ecosystem and settle for a fussion of the original ecosystem with the introduce organisms from Yazira's ecosystem.
3. Terra forming that destroys existing ecosystems in favor of the purity of the Yazirian ecosystem is a holy service to the spirit of Yazira

Practices:
The Family of One has instituted top down control of Hentz requiring all adult yazirians to wear a uniform that denotes the individual's job and place within society. Worn symbols denoting clan affliation are frowned on by Clan Anglan but not out lawed yet.
Non Yazirians are barred from contaminating the holy Garden of Yazira on Hentz with their presence thus only yazirians are allowed on the planet.

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Organization of the Family of One

College of Prelates- only open to actual members of Clan Anglan, its the ruling body of the Family of One and headed by the Prime Prelate

The Order of Priest- open to any yazirian but non Clan Anglan priest cannot rise past the rank of overseer.

The Family School- a ministry outreach of the Fo1 providing free education to the clanless and disenherited yazirian, has a strong pro Family cirriculum

Order of Inquisitors- zealous police like arm of the church open to all yazirians but upper management reserved to high ranking Clan Anglan members. Rumored to have a secret order of thought police telepaths but this is just wild speculation and hearsay.

Clergy titles: Priest, Overseer (bishop), Prelate (cardinal), Prime Prelate (Pope)
Other titles: monk (general and flexible term)

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

The Credo of One
(recited in ceremonies)

"We are one family.
We are the children of Yazira.
The Spirit of Yazira is a flame within the sha-ka of us all.
Yazira will endure because we endure.
We will make Yazira's name great among the stars."

Atheism had been suplanting older more primitive blood rite beleifs though much of the blood rites of the past persist as purely cultural practices in modern society (like people who are cultural jews without being religious jews). The advent of the Family Philosophy was not religious but simply a philosophy that applied clan values to the whole race latter it evolved into a religion under the control of Clan Anglan.

Liberal thinkers have attempted to wrest the philosophy back from Clan Anglan. They don't want to tear down the whole structure of belief that all yazirians are one family but feel that Family of One has gone too far. These philosophers have been branded apostates and are now hunted by Inquisitors for their efforts.

Gran Quivera has become a hot bed of this sort of relaxed philosophy but the Family of One has also dispatched Inquisitor under cover to spy on such groups and report back to Hentz.

There is little doubt that under the control of Clan Anglan this religion has become decidedly more theistic in nature. Some predict that eventually the Family of One will tear itself apart or tear the yazirian colonies apart.

A quote from the first Prime Prelate of the Fo1, "We will recreate this world in the image of Yazira!"
