jedion357 February 8, 2012 - 10:24am | Zebulon system is adminstered by the UPF with a governor chosen by the Council of Worlds (see Zebs Timeline) its a territory of the UPF. Star Play while presenting a clean image in the holo-media makes a significant income off of vice and other questionable activities. This is reflected in the placement of the four resort stations that it owns and operates. Most system governments tend to enact laws that limit or curtail vice and quasi criminal activity. For that reason two of the Star Play stations are in out of the way systems in vrusk space where the vrusk are less concerned with regulating such activity if its off planet. (Solar Minor & K'tsa-Kar) The huge resort station over Morgaine's World, Prengular is its poster child and public image and sitting at the hub of the Frontier this station works because of Morgaine's World's light population, and Gran Quivera's lack of political will to put too many regulations on Star Play's activities there since the politicians and corporate executives from Port Loren tend to be habitual patrons of the station. Still this station has a "cleaner" image as the corporation uses it as its public face. Finally, the station in Zebulon, Ankor Station was built to take advantage of the heavy traffic between the Rim and the UPF and the lack of a traditional system government. Star Play caters to the delegates on the Council of Worlds. Since the Council of Worlds admisters the territory of Zebulon through a governor, most governors leave well enough alone when it comes to Ankor Station. Ankor Station is the Las Vegas of the Frontier, with a famous saying, "What happens at Ankor Station, stays at Ankor Station." Star Play is low key about its ownership and adminstration of the station. Most establishments on the station are owned by Star Play but present the front of being their own business or franchise. Walking down the prominade of Ankor Station presents an atmosphere very much like walking down the main street of a major city. Clean and shiny with lights and music but this is a crafted experience. Ankor has a whole deck dedicated to casinos, a red light district, amusement parks, a race track, resturants, gift shops and shopping, spas, etc. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 February 8, 2012 - 11:07am | Ankor Station Stats Type 4 station: 800 meters in diameter, 2513.3 m circumferance MS x4 and ICM x20 (its not supposed to be an armed space station so I figured only defensive weapons especially since the sathar have hit this system more than once). Any size ship can dock upto HS18. Is a race track on one deck that completely encirles the station feasible? Space Stations
all measurements are in meters so at my arbitrarily chosen Size 4 there will be 20 decks or so in the ring. Have to assume that there are possibly 5-10 more in the hub. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 February 8, 2012 - 11:27am | So Star Play owns but since the mega corp down plays its presence the station is run by a subsidary company called Ankor Station LLC. So corporate security here is actually Ankor Security, station admin is Ankor Station Administration etc. Many other Star Play Franchises and subsidaries are here but all under their own name. Stellar Entertainment Network (see zebs) has a major office here providing broadcast entertainment to the station and planet below, music, holovid and info-tainment it maintains its own subspace radio like separate from the sub space radio that the admin section controls. Price Publishing (another Star Play subsidary) has a small office Streel, being headquartered one jump route away has corporate offices here and enjoys a corporate discount with the Stellar Arms Hotel. However, there are some suites for VIP CEOs that are staffed by Streel personnel but these are reserved for Hilo Headow and his chief execs. Stellar Arms Hotel- rates as business class hotel Ankor's Away is a CFM front business- a bar/resturant frequented by CFM captains Note: rip off amusements from here: http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/5591 I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Karxan February 8, 2012 - 9:41pm | I like the idea of a race track. If you designed it as a zero-g raceway it would be oretty cool. Maybe even have the gravity change for different types of vehicles. They could also hold televised/holovised events to be sent around the Frontier. Is this going to be a mob style-vegas space station? Will it have a unregulated trade area for black market dealings? |

Not sure how that would work to have gravity changes without artificial gravity and I was planning to stay pretty close to cannon. In Zebs they introduced stations with single purposes: trade, resort, docking etc. And I liked that but I don't know how realistic that is. A resort station will have gift shops and one thing people like to do on vacation is shop, so it really stands to reason that a resort station would have a mall, you might not an army surplus store but there has to be some trade. Now this station is in a territory not a sovereign system so I would think that there is a good possibility that regulation is light. Combine that with the ifshnits being one jump away and the population on the planet below being connected to the University of Zebulon and this station would be a hot spot for trade and as long as things don't disturb the image that station management wants to present then they don't bother too much with it.
