this is the explicit statement of the module but the sathar bio constructs- attack monsters should have given that away.

at anyrate what I'd like to discuss is the fact that the robots give the jigg up that the sathar are here

it implies that there is a an identifiable type of sathar robot.

What is that type? How is a sathar robot identifiable as such? Is it just the look, body structure or something else?

They look exactly like sathar. I mentioned in another thread that robots would represent their creators. Dral robots perhaps have hard internals and a fluidic body. Maybe drals developed biological gear rather than metal.

perhaps the dral never developed robots till they encountered the other core 4 and most anthropomorphic robots look like yazirians, vrusk and humans.

I believe dral robots would be as unique as they are. Maybe we can get a artist to conceptualize.

I think its equally plausible that dralasites may not have thought to try to build an artificial dralasite. That the extent of their robotics tech was an arm attached to the side of an assembly line doing repetitive tasks. They would immediately be both amused and fascinated upon seeing an artificial man after first contact.

inertia screen
laser pistol cranial mount
a stunner weapon from beam weapons list
6 grenades
tentacles can flail for 2d10 damage and other arms do 1d10 damage
4 melee attacks as discussed in another post this thread.

It definitely reads like it is Sathar-like with the two tentacles and two arms. Maybe a more advanced design with the "tractor/pressor beam". Anti-grav can be a hover unit.

It probably originates, though, from Gamma World... another good TSR Hobbies game. It seems the Gamma World FB group is starting its own fan magazine.

The clan’s dependence upon these workbots is a potential weakness that enemies can exploit.

The Spider II resembles a 50 kilogram cylinder that is 1.5 meters tall and 0.4 meters wide. When the a ship is in a weightless environment, they will move about using compressed air jets. If the ship is under thrust, these robots can hook into a special track, that runs around the ship, though tis limits their range of motion.

Normally these robots are not armed, but during an alert they will take up weapons. The ones encountered aboard a Sathar mothership grabbed one sonic stunner and one electrostunner, both with powerclips.

When operating independently – more than 10 kilometers from a base or when its computer isn’t being run by skilled operators – the ravager’s tactics are more predictable: it fires its laser as it moves around its target at 70 meters per turn in a 15-meter diameter circle. It will fire randomly at unidentified moving or metallic objects.

If a ravager is attacked by gunfire or explosives, use the Vehicle Damage Table and add 2 to the dice roll.

The ravager’s heavy laser is mounted on a turret with an all-around field of fire.

Laser pistol, set at 5d10 per shot (5 SEU), power: 50 SEU

Automatic pistol with 20 rounds

Automatic pistol with 20 rounds

Melee Damage:

None

Defenses:

None

Attack:

50

IM/RS:

5/50

Stamina:

Background: A design of Sathar Clan Y, the Cockroach III is designed for planetary use. Mounted on treads, the robot has very low intelligence and simple programming. Decoys, camouflage, and smokescreens may fool these robots into firing wildly at inappropriate or non-existing targets. Its sensor unit is even more vulnerable to damage than the Type I and II models.

These robots have Sathar-designed weapons and its ammunition is incompatible with that of the Frontier.

Weakness: If the die roll for a an attack against one of these robots is 01-10, it destroys the sensor unit. The Cockroach II’s attack score is reduced to only 5 percent.

Some more changes and thoughts:

The Snakehead Attack Robot -- this is the robot from the second Volturnus module.

This is an old-style Sathar robot that falls between the Frontier's standard and heavy-duty models. So, you could call it more medium-duty.

Regarding any melee damage with its limbs. It does have four limbs, but the two smaller ones are normally holding laser pistols. So, it should only get 1 melee attack per turn if it also fires the pistols. Or, it can do two melee attacks, but no ranged weapon attacks.

A Sathar upgrade: After prolonged conflicts with the UPF, the worms began upgrading these robots. One limb would receive a laser carbine (basically an enlarged pistol with better range) set at 8 SEU with an 80 SEU power pack. The second limb would receive a submachine gun (need to create stats for it, but it would be less powerful than a machine gun but better than the Frontier's semi-automatic rifle).

The rear limbs would still hold a grenade, but they would be outfitted with shock gloves. That way, the robot would have the options of conducting either a normal melee attack, an electrical attack, or an electrical/stunning attack.

The "Megadeath" Warbot

This is a fairly cheap model that the Sathar can manufacturer. It also comes in hover and VTOL versions.

After prolonged contact with the Frontier, the Sathar created several variants and upgrades including a version with 4 small rocket launchers, with an auto loader and 40 rockets. These replace the heavy laser and machine gun.

There could be a version with the heavy laser and a grenade mortar.

Maybe one more geared to get close and personal with better melee weapons?

Oh, one big change: insted of EMP shielding coming as standard equipment, this is an upgrade for newer models as a result of the Frontier deploying more and more electronic discharge grenades, missiles and mines.

Upgrades for the "Deathcup" Cybot...

One could be to give it a program that gives it some sentience! Like the one for Bugs in the System.

This would give the cybot more of a robocop like feel.

This robot should carry more weapons such as four grenades, have a melee weapon or two or even built in weapons. Obvious defenses would be giving it albedo and inertia field generators (only one up at one time), a power backpack and a A/S implant.

Weapon options could include the gyrojet rifle, a laser rifle, submachine gun or sonic devastator (yes it should be able to wield a heavy weapon without a tripod).

Now, Shadow Shack has his Cythar -- cybernetic Sathar -- which are basically Battlestar Galatica (original) Cylons. But, I'd almost like to appropriate his name for these Sathar cybots... but I'll stick with calling them cybots.

The Ravanger and the Hunter are more robotic vehicles the way they are treated in the module. So, I should probably move them to a Sathar vehicle story?

I would treat them as robots.
and put pure vehicle versions in with the vehicles.
And would add a line of languages that Frontier experts examining the wreckage of a Hunter or Raveger vehicle left behind on Pale thought that it might have been modified to receive a tubed sathar brain. providing the tubed brain with modility.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

“Deathcup” Cybot

The “Deathcup” Cybot wasencountered on Volturnus during the final battle. It was designed to look likea Sathar and contained a Satharoid brain when later examined. It is theorizedthat the Sathar might use cybots to preserve the essence of Middle Caste orUpper Caste warriors who were courageous in battle. Another theory is thatthese brains came from prisoners who were selected for a gruesome punishment bybeing separated from their bodies.

“Deathcup” Cybot

Level:

5

Size:

Anthropomorphic (Satharoid)

Power:

Sathar battery, Type 2

Movement/ Type:

Slither, 90 m/t

Limbs:

Four tentacles

Equipment:

Protection Plate – 2; Secure Compartment; Security Lock 5; Infra-red (IR), ultra-violet (UV), visible light scanners; Radiophone (500 km range).

Roboprogs:

Attack/Defense, Computer Link, Search and Destroy, Self Defense

Weapons:

Man-portable weapons

Melee Damage:

Two attacks by tentacles, each doing 2d10.

Defenses:

None

Attack:

80

IM/RS:

8/80

Stamina:

100

On Volturnus it was armed withonly a gyrojet rifle but like any combat robot, it can take up any arms thatare available. It should even be able to hold small heavy weapons includinglasers, sonic devastators, recoilless rifles, rocket launchers and the likewithout the need of a tripod.

Along with the normal suite ofRobot programs (roboprogs), the Deathcup probably has the Sathar equivalent ofa facial recognition program; a voice simulator, which presumably can mimic thevoices of the Core Four races without the lisp of a Sathar; along with programsto aid in analyzing communications transmissions, optimize signal reception andeven jam enemy signals, with a 5 kilometer range.

It is also believed that thiscybot has a medical program, believed to give it the equivalent of a level 4medtech, and a robotics repair program, giving it the ability of a level 4robotics specialist. It seems like it has a security grid program, which allowsthe Deathcup to go dormant for long periods of time to conserve power, but itcan quickly reactivate if something comes within 5-10 meters of it.

Wartime Upgrades:

The Sathar gave the DeathcupCybot several upgrades by the time of the Second Sathar War, includingproviding shock gloves powered by a 50 SEU battery pack for its lowertentacles; an anti-shock implant; plus albedo and inertia screens that werepowered by a dedicated 100 SEU pack.

“Silvercup” Cybot

This is an advanced variant ofthe Deathcup. Although no hard evidence of this type of cybot has beenrecovered, Star Law and other UPF intelligence agencies believe this deadlycybot does indeed exist.

The appearance and generalstatistics for the Silvercup are very similar to the Deathcup, but theSilvercup is a level 6 cybot with self-awareness. It can control other Satharrobots and even slavebots like a brain robot. In fact, it is believed that thebrain of the Silvercup comes from an Upper Caste member who distinguisheditself in battle rather than some sort of prisoner.

Some of its statistics would be:ATT: 90, IM/RS: 9/90, STA: 100. Its sensors would also include Shape, Sonar, and Scent (50 meter range). It originally was equipped with inertia and albedoscreens, both powered off of a 100 SEU pack.

Wartime Upgrade:

The Sathar upgrades for theSilvercup included adding a holographic generator, so the cybot could attemptto camouflage itself, along with radar, IR and UV jammers. The cybot received apartial polyplate sheath and EMP shielding along with an anti-shock implant.

The upper tentacles received built-in shockgloves, powered off of a 50 SEU pack. The lower limbs were given a melee weaponthat the Frontier calls the “buzz saw.”

The buzzsaw causes 3d10+10 points of inertia damage to a target. It uses 2 SEUs per hitand is powered off of the same powerpack as the shock gloves. It also providesthe cybot with a +20 percent bonus check to prevent falling during a climb.
