Regenerating Energy Weapons

Anyone played/playing Fallout: New Vegas?

They have a set of weapons called the Recharger Pistol/Rifle.  Each weapon recharges 1 shot per turn not fired.  The Pistol has 8 charges, the rifle 20.  Of course, they don't have variable settings, but, a constantly regenerating power cell would give you some options.

Pistol - 2d10/Shot
Ammo - 8 Max Pistol, 20 Rifle(recharge 1 shot per unfired turn)
Range - (see Laser Pistol or Rifle)
Weight - Add 1 kg to pistol, 2.5kg rifle
Cost - 900CR pistol, 1200CR rifle

If you haven't played this game, or Fallout 3, you are truly missing out.  They could both be used for amazing adventure ideas, as well as equipment seeds.

Thanks!

Perhaps a little off topic, but why does everyone use powerclips, when if I remember correctly you could hook a weapon to a powerbelt, or power backpack, and have access to far more SEU than a standard powerclip. Okay so the cord attaching the weapon to the beltpack or power backpack might not look cool, but having 50-Seu or more at the ready without expending actions to switch clips is very advantageous, and you can recharge belts and power backpacks where powerclips for some reason can't be recharged.

Because powerclips are weightless! Foot in mouth  You can carry hundreds of them but a belt pack weighs 4 kilos. Smile

Joking aside, actually I agree with you.  I much perfer to have my laser weapons connected to a power beltpack or backpack.

OK you maggots your metagaming ends now. Just because your new WEAPONS and you better not say guns are slow does not mean they are useless. Every good soldier knows every weapon has a proper purpose and a proper use. You useless coach potatoes have been playing Call of Duty for too long. Even there you should have learned the basics. Going old school AK-74s are wonderful little weapons with that OH so important Rate of Fire. Try taking out a target 300 meters away with it. Hope you have ALOT of ammo. Now a bolt action sniper rifle is slow I mean really slow but since you can get a kill at 1500 meters NO not you maggots but a real soldier, it kinda doesn't matter if its slow.
Pop quiz which one are you taking to knock out the tank rolling down the street your Rate of Fire Uzi or your single shot RPG? Too late your dead you hiding behind the fat guy. Yes the RPG takes out the tank the Uzi makes a nice souvenir for the tank crew.

Now self recharging weapons might have a slow rate of fire but are excellant for Long Range Recon Teams. Something you lowlifes will never be. These guys aren't supposed to get in fights. They are supposed to get in, get the intel and get out. BUT if everything goes really wrong then a light weapon with good hitting power which does need to have alot of heavy ammo or powerclips carried for it is what these guys dream of.

Now drop and give me 50 pushups Humans and Yazirians, Vrusk 50 knee benders and Dralasites 50 stretches now move it move it move it.

Drill Sergeant mode off now have a nice day.

Outstanding, Private Rattraveller, I think we've finally found somethin' you're good at.Laughing

No joking here I very much prefer my defensive screens jacked into power belts and power back packs and can live with swapping out the clips on a weapon.

The simple reason why is that I have no control over how much crap is gonna come my way and I prefer to have the maximum protection possible. I very much have control over how much power I use with the weapon thus I'm ok with swapping out clips which is something I'll have to do anyway if I see that the opponents I'm facing is using an albedo screen which means I just switched over to the back up ballistic weapon.Wink

I have to go with Rattraveler on this one.

I'm ex-military, and one of the things they drill into you is the 3-5 second rush.  This works with any size team, even down to two soldiers.  One moves forward 3-5 seconds, while the other lays down cover fire.  This allows you to get closer to your objective and lets you get stronger ordinance in place; i.e. grenades.

If you had a squad of 9 guys doing this with the Recharger weapons, recharge rate would not be an issue.  Now, like nearly all groups I've played with, the entire group is hanging over cover, blasting anything that moves.  This will get you shot, especially if you have a smart opponent that is waiting for his shot of opportunity, "Look at that! That dumb monkey has had his head hanging over that wall for a whole minute...ZAP..."

Firing once every 2 turns or so, giving yourself a chance to scope out a target, then popping up to fire will not only extend your suit/shield protection, but also that big melon that sits on your neck.  That's not "Hard Science" that's "Hard Training".

Also ex-military and the reason for the lack of covering fire is fairness. Games truly believe everyone should be able to move and fire in the same turn. Some games have a character hit and fall down but they can get up and shot away. Few games have "flinch" rules. Where if your shot at you don't do anything but hide behind cover until fire is lifted or you get some help. Like I said "Call of Duty" and "Halo" I've been killed 49 times doesn't stop me from charging back in and blasting away again with the biggest rate of fire weapon I can find.

Play vs. Realism
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

actually 2 hour wargames has flinch rules in the various incarnations of their system but then is more wargame then rpg.

Rat lives in Phenix City, Alabama, where Fort Benning goes to play.

I live in Wagoner, Oklahoma, former haunt of Bob Willis and the Texas Playboys.

Larry lives in Ohio, home of Charles' Chips and goetta(I'll take a big can of the former, and none of the latter)

Jedi lives in Boston, home of baked beans, the Red Sox and the Dropkick Murphys.
(Also, the oldest sewage-treatment facility in the United States....)

This should clear up any confusion.

Neither. I designate the target for a nearby anti-armor vehicle.

OK for those who don't know this is how you take out a take with Uzis.
First have a friend or better three also armed with Uzis.
Second wait till tank is in an area where you can get close like a city street.
Third Using alot of shoot, duck and move to new position you and your friends shoot out the vision blocks of the tank. Most are made of hardened plastic and protected a little but can be done especially with high rate of fire weapons.
Fourth when the tank is blinded the crew will either try and retreat and probably hit something they can't get out of like the tank trap you dug or remain where they are.
Fifth Wait if the crew pop their heads out shoot them. If not then just wait they probably called for reinforcements you should have shot off the antenae too or try the same thing with the next one.

Of course artillery strikes work alot better.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

I would add to rattraveller's discertation on uzi- molotov cocktails- a blinded tank lit on fire would likely lead to panic in the crew- a purely human reaction.

There's a name for an adventure: Blazing Uzi's

Quote from the adventure, "RPG's? We dont need no stinking RPG's! We have uzis."

Especially given that the inside of a tank is some pretty close quarters.

Again another discussion is morale and breaking. Just because your tank is on fire is no reason to get out. They actually have systems to deal with your tank being on fire. Of course I have witnessed a crew abandon a BIFV and run away when all they had to do was hit the Halon system and it would have gone out. Has mentioned somewhere realism vs playability. Games, movies and books can not be realistic since the heroes are overcoming the impossible by themselves.

Now what is this thread about again?

You distract the tank's crew with Uzi fire and just lob a lot of grenades at it.
Not realistic but I was doing that very thing playing MAG just last week, no one with me had an RPG. So every one just fired at it (it was really just an APC) and we dumped about 8 grenades on that thing.
