Capitol Punishment; the Bap-E-Cusioner

Just some ideas:

the all new humane method:
The "Bap-E-Cusioner" - execution by bap bin- your molecules never get re-assembled
Crimminals go in but they never come out

or your pattern is stored in a buffer pending your appeal. it the appeal fails the buffer is flushed.
The only problem with the pattern buffer is pattern degredation becomes terminal after 7 years so if you your appeal is still pending after 7 years you're flushed anyways. Which lead to wiley prosecuters dragging out the appeal process as long as possible to get the denied appeal by default.

Adventure Idea: Star Plasma storm strikes atmosphere causing massive power outages and power surges. At a prison facility a power surge disables all electronic security and blows the bap-e-cusioner causing all patterns stored to be reassembled. PC's are among a rather large group of very dangerous individuals who suddenly materialize in a room. Prisoners must then escape during the back drop of a natural disaster.

1. this could be the kick of for all new characters or the beginning of an all new campaign for established characters. I would prefer using established characters as they would have prior reason to work together.
plus I'd do the "you have no memory of how or why you were convicted nor of your execution." which presents a mystery as to what happened so the campaign would be structureds as:
A. escape the prison
B. escape the planet
C. find out what happened 5 years ago
D. get even
epilog:get their names cleared or new identities if part D didn't accomplish that

EDIT: criminal backgrounds for each NPC in the room the PCs materialize in will be almost as important as their stats. some could be sathar agents, serial killers, pirates, psycotic and etc.
Some of the criminals should be set up as oponents for the PCs plus a Star Law team tasked with recapturing all the escapees. maybe some bounty hunters are moving in as well (paid for by who ever put the PCs there)
I'd also include some descriptions of 1-2 "bad" re-materializations: a vursk and a dral who materialized togehter and a human who materialized with his skin inside out or some such
Prison guards would be over reacting violently to the emergency and there would still be regular prisoners locked up in cells or not depending on the type of locking mechanism.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

I like the adventure idea; that's something to work on!
Long live the Frontier!

I don't know about them being put in a buffer pending judgment. That seems irresponsible and unrealistic. Sentient right advocates would be ALL over that and wouldn't give up until it folds.

True enough so how about this: they were just plain executed but someone decided, long before the PCs were executed that putting really hard cases on ICE might be a worth while activity so while the criminal justice system thought they were executing people their pattern was being copied to a secret buffer and not flushed.
Possible cause for this:
1. excentric brother of a convicted criminal who was trying to save his brother
2. mega corp looking to have totally disposable dirty work assets
3. ?

Maybe the original guy who set it up is dead or incapacitated somehow- the buffer became overloaded and and the natural disaster caused the unexpected rematerialization of the executed criminals.
Under this scenario you'd want to have the PCs jumped something like 20 or more years.
