Facebook & Star Frontiersman

I don't guess we would have rights to make a Facebook fan-page for the actual Star Frontiers game (according to the terms of use, one must be a duly appointed representative to construct such a page), but certainly we can get Bill or one of his wise aides to set one up for the StarFrontiersman Webmag.

Just another viral marketing tool to help spread the word and gather those who are interested.  I would be among the first 'fans' of Star Frontiersman.

If interested, here is the link right to the url where it can be setup on Facebook:  http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

I wonder...I've seen other non-rights pages posted there. Several for various motorcycle models, and I know of at least one company that is very particular about who uses their name/logo without recieving any monetary compensation. But surely the SFman wouldn't be an issue.

I agree.  I doubt there would be any trouble for a fan-page for the actual Star Frontiers game, but a simple email could get your facebook account disabled for lack of authority to make such a page.  If your motorcycle corp (Harley I would fathom) bothered, then it could probably get such pages removed.

SFMan, as a separate entity, would be OK.  I cannot imagine a fan-page of a fan-zine would ruffle anyone's feathers.

I see the value in promoting the webzine. Another avenue to draw more readers and (gasp) submitters is the FrontierSpace(TM) RPG which will be contributing to the webzine, have its own site and link back to SFMAN. We have other areas as well. Gleemax, RPGnet and so on. (I don't have the time to maintain all those accounts and keep up with posting. :-( )

I'm leaning towards NOT another SF site.
I honestly wish we could incorporate everything into one site.
It's a little frustrating attempting to keep track of several SF sites. (They at least need email notification of new content or a What's New page).

If someone does setup Fbook, of course I'll join. Cool

I wouldn't count on Bill for anything but FS right now. Be the RPG. Be the RPG. Laughing

That company would be Hundred Dollars, by any chance, would it?

Hmm, you two have plans to flog the Frontiersman and/or FS through DriveThruRPG.com? That would definitely get some publicity going as well.

Just a small asside here but if any members have original art work they should upload it to sites like photobucket.com as people (like me) will search for SF artwork there. with the right title and a good description one photo could drive traffic to our site.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

It is not copyright infringement to do a fan page. You just can provide pirated product.

You are correct, but it is against the terms of facebook to create such a page/group without being an official representative of a particular company (in this case, WotC who owns Star Frontiers).  Bill, being the head of FrontierSpace could appoint one to head this up (not me please, too much going on lately)... and he could arguably appoint for StarFrontiersMan but since the materials for that webmag generally support WotC's IP, that might be in the gray area (albeit, doubtful it would be an issue for even the suits of WotC).

SmootRK, you are correct - we need more exposure for the webzine.

I just reviewed FB but I'm unclear if several ppl can maintain a "Star Frontiersman FB" site or if it can only administered by a single person?

I also looked at Twitter. Currently the only feedback is Bill's email box and the Guest page on sfman.com If we had an outlet for ppl to shout, it would draw more attention.

Also, I'm considering shutting down the Star Frontiersman project on this site. It's very difficult to maintain sfman.com, run the webzine, update the project, etc... I'll ask Bill of course but wanted to know all your thoughts. Good Idea? Bad Idea?

Edit: If we do shut down this project what is the outlet for letting people know the deadline for submissions is approaching?

I recant.

Will, how could we use drivetrurpg and rpgnow sites for the webzine?

Who wants to take this? If we do a FB/Twitter/Other fan site (even sfman.com) we should upload the photos as suggested then link to them. Good idea.

you could put the announcement in place of the poll area for about a week.
Or just one forum subject and post there when the time is closing in.
