Born on Hentz, Barak brought great shame on his clan by joining an underground resistance cell and blowing up what the resistance claimed was a Family of One re-education center for political prisoners. The news coverage reported that it was a school and orphanage as well as a temple. The perpetrators were vilified. When Barak was caught his clan was punished, financially and socially within Hentz society and Grak was ordered to be executed by his own clan by being flayed alive under the supervision of Family of One Inquisitors. (Such an execution begins with the cutting away of the pataguim wing flaps then the flaying of the skin beginning at the mane hence Grak's loss of his wing flaps and severe scarring on one side of his face.)

During the execution members of his cell crashed the party killing the inquisitors and rescuing Barak. Some of the member of Barak’s clan intervened and were killed, most notably a clan elder was killed by Barak himself. Barak managed to be escape Hentz and changed his name to Grak. He’s taken criminal jobs at Grand Quivera in exchange for new identity cards and some cosmetic surgery to change his appearance. His cover story is now that he survived a shuttle crash to explain his permanent wounds.

The Family of One and surviving members of the Hoozacal clan want him dead. The Fo1 will settle for extraditing him back to Hentz but the clan will attack on sight.

The loss of his pataquim wing flaps marks him with a stigma among yazirians (-20% to all reactions unless the NPC involved is a clanless outcast as well then he might get a bonus to the reaction). Grak despises any yazirian that is “honorable” and hates the Family of One with a burning hatred. He will willingly vent his hatred with violent action.
