The Character:

While digging through an ancient hulk in space, JoeBob finds some clips of video that show a man who's an incredible fighter who has some amazing devices that help him defeat his foes. He thinks it's awesome and sets off to find his adventure in a black cape and a bat-symbol.

The Question:

Have you ever thought about a martial artist with Bat-Gadgets? How would you design the grapple gun, batarang, the ever-present "omni" gadget in the belt?

What are your ideas?

Yazirian, honor weapon is analogous to the bat-a-rang.

I did an explorers utility belt in the FE zine,

Civilian skien suit for his bat costume. Lots of capes in SF art

Yeah your good
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Disqualified. Jed your answer is ALWAYS Yazirian.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

You don't have to be yazirian to use a zamra!

Question was what equipment would you use to do Batman in setting. Zamra is good analog.

AND yazirians have more fun!

And yazirian gliding ability clearly works with Batman schtick.

This could be another Analog article: Batman was a "Level 6th Yazirian martial artist"

I do believe in the last such article I cast Gandolf as a Dralasite.

Jedions answer is valid.

11. We were here first. The rest of y'all migrated.

10. We can fly. Well, glide...but it's pretty close.

 9. There's monkey strength, and there's enraged strength. Then there's enraged monkey strength, which allows the weakest yaz to tear others' limbs from their sockets (or pseudopods from their nuclei).

 8. We can see at night. Makes us better killers.

 7. Secret clan handshakes.

 6. Do you really want to be on one of our life enemy lists?

 5. We might have the shortest lifespan, but we live and play the hardest.

 4. We fornicate for pleasure, just like humans. Female humans call us animals for more than one reason...see #5

 3. We wear sungoggles during the day. Not because the sun affects our vision, but when you're cool like us the sun shines all the time.

 2. Better dexterity & reaction speed in lieu of strength makes us better shooters. See # 6 & #8. We're also smarter and more attentive.

 1. "See that tat on my arm? That's a Black Mandrill, we're feared throughout the Frontier!"

Rule #1 --- "Always back your clan brother's move."

Followed closely by "...even if he's not from your clan."

...and "Backing rival clans is also recommended when dealing with steenking humans, drals, and vrusk."

and the one rule for not being a yazirian...

Your just supposed to be a short not so hairy sidekick for a rogue human.

Oh and by the timeline the Yazirians arrived in the Frontier 30 years AFTER the Humans, Dralasites and Vrusk had met up for the first time. We had the leader and the logical 2nd and the comic relief so a charge in first without thinking of the consequences fourth member was just what we needed.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Jed,

Which issue of FE does the belt reside? I'm old and blind, I didn't find it.

Thanks =)

Batman was a level 6 yazirian martial artist
PSA Military or Tech ? Batman is good with his fist and good with gadgets so either of those PSAs

Martial Arts 6
Thrown Weapons 6
Demolitions 3 or so
Technician: 5?
Computers 2

some shooting skill for a grapple gun (IIRC there was one in the SFman somewhere)

lots of high tech gadgets for this character
morgue of suits including partial poly plate and full polyplate versions

rich is easy but who is his butler?

side kick? if we go with an Adam West type Batman then the sidekick has to be a dralasite.

but we could make an ally that is an analogue to Nightwing who is what Robin became IIRC.

Bat-mobile a tricked out air car? or should it be a ground vehicle?

does he have a space ship?

Throw in a melee weapon skill at least lv-3, and projectile weapons at about the same level. While it's not his go to method, he is not above the use of either in the comics.

He would have a wide array of vehicles ranging from ground vehicles to aircraft and watercraft. While I can't imagine any batmobile or batcycle as a hovercraft, I would probably lean that way for an SF setting. His ship would be an assault scout but the cockpit is a starfighter that detaches. The cout would have to be equipped with loads of computer equipment so it can be operated by one person (and as such would pretty much be restricted to system use unless we make Alfred an astrogator).

No space ship. Batman protects his city. He does not go traveling around the Frontier looking for trouble, trouble comes to him. He will need a shuttle or launch to get to orbit to work on his satellite network on his own.

If you are going with Adam West Batman who makes his own gear then highest technical skill levels are needed. If you're the sissy one who had his company make all the stuff for him to steal than lower tech skills but both need higher computer. Batman is the world's greatest detective. He needs to research stuff on his mainframe and get into others computers.

PSA? Tech or military? could be either with this skill set. Probably best is he is Tech and simply commited to learning all that military stuff he needed. under AD rules at least

I like the idea of a assualt scout with a robotic brain and detachable fighter cockpit. However good point on he protects his city. Does he need to travel on interstellar basis? does he need the space ship?

if yes then bump the tech to 6 and give him Piloting 1 as per KHs

And just what city does he protect? it has to be one of the mega cities of the Frontier: Port Loren, Maze or the capital city of Triad. Im thinking it should be Port Loren just because but my concepts of Maze and the capitol of Triad is more crime. port Loren just seems so shiny clean from the AD map.

Actually the Bats has ventured into space on more than one occasion. Usually in Justice League or other team-up type comics & tales, but it has happened. Granted in the stand alone/self-titled books (re: Batman, Detective Comics, etc) he does, in fact, remain in Gotham.

As the world's foremost detective (a trait often overlooked int he Gollywood translations), I would say his PSA is Tech. He picked up on the military stuff later on in life.

Generally Batman is a tech guy but he could be special ruled to have more than one PSA because his "superpower" is his extreme will power and discipline.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?
