Official UPF Uniforms

Is there an official uniform illustration, or use our own?
I'm kind of fond of the 'made up' one I found, and can
only imagine the one they had in mid in the 70's.
Silver jumpsuits with red gloves and boots, with a big glass
helmet to boot.

Neat illustration... at least for Human characters. How did you come across it?

JCab747, I simply typed in Starfrontiers UPF Uniforms in a google search.
Instead of reading all of the threads, I just clicked on images.
This one really caught my eye, and looked professional.
I know they look like they are from Mass Effect, but it fits.

IIRC jedion357 whipped some up, or am I thinking this was the Clarion Royal Marines project..?

My take on the SF Frontier is a little more original star trek or 50s/60s retrofuture looking, so I might go with something more like Trek TOS uniforms, with the UPF logo from the front of the Knight Hawks Tactical Operations Manual, but if you have a more modern vision, the ones posted above look fine.

Now, for Star Law troopers, I go with the (sort of) official illustration from D20 Future.

That works too.

I like the ideas in the Honor Harrington series which are some what a throw back to an earlier time, almost Napoleonic. There's no real point to a space navy having camo- no hiding in space. Sure Marines landing on a planet use camo. But the individual navies if this setting have distinctive colored uniforms: green on black etc.

I think ship suits ie coveralls should be a work duty enlisted uniform but UPF officers wear their basic uniforn or their vacuum suit during combat. Military skien suit is issues for ground operations when combat is a possibility and is basically the same for officer and enlisted.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Even the Space Navy has it's own divisions.
If you think about it, it's an all in one division.
Space Fleets are pretty much all branches in one now.

This one looks better. The tan or gold on blue doesn't stand out so well.

Thanks, I couldn't get the blue right.
I'll toy around with it. I wanted something that
would stand out on a a white uniform as above.
Maybe just a blue border, white background, and blue lettering.
I always imagined a white uniform with blue and gold piping
for some reason though.

I like the more modern look uniforms, although I understand the nostalgia of the retro look. There are rank structure discussions in "The UPF" project. The download area has images I worked on and refined according to feedback back in 2011.

I agree with Jedi about the patch. The dark blue over the lighter background looks better.
Strong work on the graphics Lt Dan!

The UPF is unmanaged, anyone can join. Just request membership and it should happen automatically.

That wasn't the case with the Mechanons. ;)

The mechanons are too self sufficient.   The mega-corporations that secretly control the UPF can't gain profit from them or get them dependent on trade with them.  So far they have not figured out any way to exert control over the mechanons so they are a threatened because the mechanons expose our dependence on the mega-corporations. The mega-corporations also have failed to get the mechanons to use a monetary system.  Until the mechanons accept the standard credit and take loans from the mega-corp banks they are out.  Open your eyes beings!  We must throw off the shackles of the mega-corps.

I read this on a data swipe to my chronocom when I bought an ever blooming flower sculpture from a cyber-dral at the Port Loren starport.  I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory but the ever blooming flower sculptures the cybercult beings are making are really beautiful.  My wife loves it.  The flower gently produces buds that blossom from within the remnants of the previous flower.  The flower literally is always blooming.  I never have to charge it or anything.  The flower just runs off light.  The color even changes to match your mood and when I'm feeling a little down, just the smell of it makes me feel happy.  I bought another one and took it to the office.  I think better with one filling the air around me with such pure essence.  Everyone at the office stops buy and enjoys a whiff three or four times a day.  In fact our robo receptionist has three at the front desk.  Anybeing that can make something that makes all of us happy and our robots too must really understand the universe.  The mega-corporations don't have it right.  They're corrupting us and controlling us.  We should throw down the mega-corps and their UPF and follow the mechanons.  Here, buy an ever blooming flower sculpture.  I just made it especially for you, it's only 20 credits.  Take a whiff.  See how wonderful it makes you feel.

Iggy. Is there a version of the flower for lapels? Maybe it would look good on the uniforms were supposed to be talking about.Smile

To me, the pre-Zebs UPF seems more like a combination of NATO and the European Common Market (pre-European Union).

The UPF of the post Second Sathar War is more lie a EU/pee-ew organization with more centralized control at Prenglar.

I don't think admission is ever automatic in any organization, hence the Mechanons being excluded. And, if you want to use the S'sessu, I don't think the Vrusk would let them join either. (Wheter or not you accept my concept of the S'sessu having several different nations on their home world.)

Ok guys. Before we go too far off the subject of Lt Dan's thread... Lt Dan wanted to view the DOCUMENT and DOWNLOAD areas of the PROJECT called " The UPF", NOT the in game organization of the same name.

He specifically wanted to see the rank insignia we discussed and developed back in 2012 to give him a few more ideas for his spacefleet uniform project. He asked if I could invite him to the project and I informed him that he just needed to request entry and bot 5000 would let him into the project.

I was serious about the Mechanons not getting in for financial reasons.  If you can't contribute to the coffers then you arn't much of a benifit to the UPF.  The Mhemne and Notui are not in either.  They have nothing to offer.

That collecton of uniforms was one I did awhile back.  And yes, they were intended to be for the UPF.  I borrowed from HALO and Mass Effect to find them all.

If you put this together, i applaud you.
This is how I imagined them in the 80's
Star Wars set the tone for sci-fi uniforms and
all others fell in line.
My gaming group thought them as silver jump suits
like in the 60's & 70's. I had to argue with them.
Awesome depiction.

In their defense: that's pretty much what an Albedo Suit is. Cool
