New Idea kicking around:

Started here:
http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/8539

Base idea is a corporate charter to open up a new planet and develop its resources much like Plymoth colony in America. PCs have a contract with pay schedules for bonuses at various plateau's and are in on the ground floor of setting up the colony.

Suggestion was to have a 30 page contract of legalese that pretty much boils down to the corporation being able to do what they want and even cancel the contract when it suits them. First page would be a a basic outline of adventure and bonus pay schedule but rest would be legalese mumbo jumbo:
generator for this is here http://www.watter.com/Default.aspx?tabid=822

PCs must:
1. set up the first base camp and expand it later with new modular buildings
2. deal with environmental issues impacting their lives on this planet:
    A. something in the atmosphere- microbe that must be filtered (at first they need a gas mask but later a
medical or environmental character can develop a hypo injection that lets the core 4 species deal with
        contaminate without a mask)
    B. venomous creature-
    C. ?
3. Develope commercial assets. PCs must decide what to do with the various heavy duty robots and what to task them with: dig, harvest, clear land for space port etc. Game master will apply problems and rewards to each activity.

4. deal with encroachment by other entities from the Frontier - this could be that pirates have been using the planet as a secret outpost and or "island for buried treasure" or another mega corp is loooking to horn in.

5. ?

6. ?

This is ambitious.  Looks like the PCs are the initial founders of the colony.  We should have the colony have lots of corporate NPCs driving the setting and the PCs get adventures in the big picture.

This contract idea could be used with any setting, space station, corporate security, tetrarch excavation, etc.

I've been thinking about this and a slow day (when a number of players dont show up) you could have a CFM merchant land and trade with colony personnel. Preferably after the PCs have had at least one good payday. A NPC under contract might try to "escape" with the CFM merchant or a corporate spy caught a ride with him and needs to be apprehended. I also lilke the idea of some ruins- tetrarch, kllik, sathar or whatever that could be a mini dungeon crawl.

I actually like the idea of encouraging the players to look for angles to get over on the corporatiion. Portray the corporation unfavorably and willing to screw anyone. Thus if the PCs are sent to deal with pirate raiders they may download and erase data from pirate computers and save said data for when they get out from under their ciontract

Scenarios under this style of game:

Corrupted officals (corporate or government / both) have to be dealt with before the colony can take off.

Hidden agenda:  Alien's 2 comes to mind.  They want something from the planet and are willing to use the colonist to get it (dead or alive.).

Corporation is trying to do the right thing but outside corporation wants to see it fail (Takeover, Bad press for Megacorp or mismangment by an offical puts colonists in danger).

Colonist revolt against Corporation (Bad seeds looking to make their own little empire, religious order wants to takeover, Colonist are justified in their reaction and Sathar agents don't want them there.)

I'd shake and bake Tollon's ideas: corrupt official taking the corporate cred, corp willing to use and loose the colonist and another corp waiting (or perhaps not waiting ) in the wings for chance at take over. Oh, and that corrupt official is suppose to be one of the colonist and on their side but is sabotaging efforts of the colonist to prosper or resist corporate manipulation

Or we could turn this on its head: colonist are corrupt and corp sent PCs in to investigate. It turns out the colonist are working with the hostile tale over corp- they and hostile take over corp are in on a secret about the planet .
