You've probably heard the news that Star Wars is back and that's not all, the lion share of the original cast is back as well. So how do you feel about it? Hopefull?  Or not?  April 30, 2014 - 4:36pm | Disney didn't futz with Marvel (or Pixar for that matter either, re: prior Lucas owned properties) so I don't see that as being an issue. J.J. Abrams does concern me though. One of the most attractive things about the original Star Wars flicks was how everything was used. Nothing was pristine, nothing was in mint condition, nothing was sterile. J.J. has a perverse love for lens flares, and quite frankly there is nothing in the SW universe that should be shiny enough to produce such a phenomenon. As for the cast, I've heard that Lando should be returning in Episode VIII. I've also seen that Max Von Sydow will be in the new flick. Ford is rumored to be appearing "one last time" with the agreement that his character is killed off...which begs the question: will Lando be wearing Han's clothes again?  The Expanded Universe (post-Episode 6 stories a la Timothy Zhan, Dark Horse Comics, WEG RPG, etc) is also not going to be in the picture. Marvel has been given the rights to the comics once again, and while the EU is out I wouldn't mind seeing some of their tales covered or at least receive an honorable mention in the new flicks. Those were some great stories and characters as was expected from the House of Ideas in that era. Okay, I just want to see the purple skinned nympho Zeltrons more than anything.  |
