Watching "Once Upon a Time In the West" by Sergio Leone

love the set up for the protagonist's motivation (I wont spoil it if you haven't seen it) Eastwood truned this one down and I cant help but think this would have been better known if he hadn't.

Of course I've been a huge fan of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly but I'm becoming intrigued with Once upon a time as it plays on my TV
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Because of you, I watched the movie for the first time all the way through. (Kind of slow, so it put me to sleep before.) Interesting that you mention The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The opening reminded me of both that and 10:30 to Uma. (Uma was actually mentioned in the movie. Apparently as a nod.)

The slow-developing script might have scared Eastwood, (The slowest of Mr. Leone's,) or perhaps his plate was full at the time.

I'm not sure the motivation would translate, exept as a character background to pop up in the middle of some adventure. It sets up a face-off, but not a full adventure. I don't think building a town would suit a full adventure, though could be an overarching premise of a campaign, as long as there's lots of other action leading to its completion.

Building a colony?

We have levels of play: RPG, tactical board game (KHs), why not a Civilization or Age of Empires-esk build a colony game? Played a lot of Age of Empires and Civilization and enjoyed it. IIRC the GURPS source book for Alpha Centari mixed the Civilization follow-up Alpha Centari with RPG elements- Players have a cast of 4-6 characters with stripped down stats that they use when the game transitions to a role play or tactical encounter.

Red shirts too.

With a colony building campaign you should have lots of volunteer redshirts to help the PC's do things asuming the PC's are important people in the colony, not the bad guys.
