Worst Sci Fi show dialogue?

Can anybody think of a Sci Fi show with worse dialogue than Babylon 5? I mean, even Star Trek TOS has better dialogue with...all...Kirk's...lines...

I mean wow. The first season especially is THE WORST I've ever seen.

its been awhile but I think possibly Buck Rogers TV show except for the episode where the dwarves wanted to see Wilma's boobs, Barbarella also comes to mind comes to mind too

you may be giving Star Treck too much credit because of their use of techno babble to sound intelligent- I'm just not sure if that qualifies as good dialogue.

Jedion is right OFO about Buck Rogers being pretty bad. I liked the show as a kid and I was given the boxed set for Christmas a few years ago. I only have watched it once. It was not the same as when I was 12. B5 had good and bad dialogue depending on the episode, but nothing as corny as some shows like Jason Of Star Command and other mis 70's to late 80's sci-fi shows. ST OS had better dialogue than a lot of those. The problem is some shows back then were trying to copy ST and did a horrible job.

Another series of shows that had horrible dialogue were the Krofft Super Stars shows. Some were sci-fiish and very, very cheesy. Don't get me wrong though, I loved them back then and Dyno Woman and Electra girl were worthy of a young man's crush. Dr Shrinker was fun too. Wonder Bug, fun too. Just not very good writing.

A show I remember fondly though don't crucify me if its all nostolgia and no substance was Max Headroom. My Dad was stationed at Mildenhall England during the '80s and that was on the British tube, I was a super big fan of that and Last of the Summer Wine- which was a British sitcom that was actually funny and I just dont normally go in for sit coms but the dry British humor appealed to me at the time.

I wonder what my reaction would be to buy a dvd collection of Max Headroom now?

RE Buck Rogers: a stand out bad episode was when Jerry Orbach of Law and Order fame played an evil disk jocky that was going to beam a signal to a hundred systems and some how this was bad and somehow Buck just had to stop him.

However, Duck Dodgers in the 23 and 1/2 century was a lot of fun, now there was some good writing.

Edit: I was doing an unrelated search and looked at the wikipedia page for Linda Hunt who currenely plays Henrieta Lange on NCIS LA, spotted that she did a stint in a show called "Space Rangers" which only had about 5 episodes before being cancelled, from reading the episode synosis I suspect that poor writing and perhaps poor dialog may have been the cause for that- especially when you get an academy award winning actress like Linda Hunt on your show.

Yeah, Buck Rogers pretty much sucked. Wilma was great to look at - but the show, not so much! :)

A movie that should be on this list methinks is Ice Pirates (1984: Robert Urich, Mary Crosby, Angelica Houston, Max Von Sydow and Ron Perlman among others). Giant space herpe? I mean, come on! Right?

The trouble with that movie was at times it seemed like it was supposed to be a serious sci fi offering...but at other times it seemed like it was intended as parody. It was along the lines of Space Balls - but Space Balls never looses that parody feel like Ice Pirates.
I don't have to outrun that nasty beast my friend...I just have to outrun you! Wink

Ice Pirates was so bad its good. IMO. Space Ball, despite good performances by the chest bursting alien and a few of the cast had a feel like Mell Brooks was trying to prove he still had the touch, like he was trying too hard and his high water mark was undoubtably in the era of History of the World part 1 or Blazing Saddles. Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed Space Balls for what it was I just felt like it lacked and was trying to be Mell's come back on an old formula.

Wait, I got one! Airplane the Sequel. It had a space plane crash landing on the moon, a brief appearence of the Star Ship Enterprise, and Shatner parodying himself as Commander Buck Murdock. It was really just a rerun of the first movie with all the same sight gags and one liners. It actually got funny when they parodied Star Trek but there was just not enough of that to make the movie stand out.

The second season of Buck Rogers was atrocious. I liked the Hawk character but once the hokey pilot episode was over it wetn further south. The commander was commandless, alwasy being advised before making any decisions. I mean what good is a commander if he always has to consult his subordinates and civilians? I swear that guy was worse than the Dr. Huer/Twiki exchanges. If Huer/Twiki were Abbot and Costello, the Searcher's CO was Abbot and Abbot.

Pamela Hensley (the highlight of the first season) couldn't even salvage that run.

Ok - Buck Rodgers was definitely worse, but as far as Sci Fi SHOWS, after that I HAVE to vote B5.

So true. Mel only made two good movies, Blazing Saddles and History. Everything else was a tired retread of the same formula. And can anyone name a Mel Brooks movie without a show tune in it?

Well I would make a case for young Frankenstein being a lot of fun and coming in close to the other two.

as to your question, wow good one- would that be High Anxiety?

Edit: I bet I know which one now after googling him- the title says it all ;)

OMG- he made Space Balls the Animated series.

True - High Anxiety. And young Frankenstein was good too, so that's three.

Did you guys hear? There is going to be shortage on pork. We NEED more acting with Bill Shatner! Hell, we could use some more stuff by Jeremy Irons, Jim Carrey, John Malkovich, Malcolm McDowell and Robin Williams (yum, large hams WITH cheese). Tongue out

Oh, if you what hammy acting, try some Doctor Who.

Ok just watched 7 or so episodes of Jason of Star Command and its got to be in the top 10 of corniest. Funny how I could wait for it to come on on Saturdays as a kid. I guess it was more about explorartion and action. Interesting that Jason doesn't have a gun or use one. I do admire Sid Haig for revelling in his part and making Drakos an over the top jerk.

Don't know if this counts but what the heck.

On the show Haven the lead female characters are attempting to confirm their identities to each other since the prime bad guy is a skinwalker (shapeshifter). After some review of past episodes and events they confirm to each other that neither is the skinwalker based on the date the brunette lent the blonde her push up bra.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Thats just too funny.

BTW, you know a show is low budget when in the first episode one of the actor's has a big zit on his forehead that hasn't even been covered up! Kid you not on that, the professor has a big zit on his forehead.

I just came across Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone

I dunno but this is a real 80s cheese fest with hoaky special effects and the dialog is not moving me.

Although I liked the fact that the vehcile was battoned down with cargo straps for transport on board ship.

EDIT: I also liked the fight scene where the hero is on the rope and plank bridge which has a lot of bounce to it so the hero jumps on the bridge which naturally sends the attacker into the air and he lands spread legged on the bridge - they didn't focus in on his reaction which would have been real  cheesy but cut right to more action it was nicely done. You just dont see that sort of move in an action movie (or at least I haven't).

Is this a troll thread?

If you ask me, the original Battlestar Galactic was campy and had very bad dialog. Most sci-fi show will because TV doesn't take sci-fi very seriously. A lot of the shows mentioned dialog is so bad make B5's look like geinus.

Of course granted even anime series like Gundam, as much as I love it says the craziest things.
Take Harry Ord for instance.

Seriously, no one not even the most hard core Gundam fan can explain this scene. He's just yelling out "Universe".

Sometimes bad dialog just makes a show better, because when it comes right down to it we all talk poorly about stupid things.

That's a great quote, "...we talk poorly about stupid things." - Sargonarhes

Its like a memorable line from a pulitzer prize winning novel. That just made my quote of the day list. oh the irony that it was spurred by a thread on bad Sci fi dialogue.

Something probably got lost in the translation...you ought to try deciphering the "English" owners manual that comes with a Chinese made motorcycle some day.

I tried to watch Barbarella last night just to see what it was, because someone mentioned it above. I found the dialog so hokey and cornball that I turned it off within the first five minutes. Never was a big Jane Fonda fan anyway.

My advice, wait till you are really drunk one night (at least well beyond having a buzz) and search youtube for clips of Barbarella, like the orgasim scene.

I was just watching "Total Retribution". Synopsis: "Trapped on space station orbiting Earth, a small army of human survivors are prepared to battle the undead in space, led by an unlikely hero."

Yeah the unlikely hero is this middle aged naked woman, at least for the first 15 minutes she is stark naked. A real a-cup avenger with a boyish figure. Dont know if I can watch this any further. the desire to change to something else is huge at the moment.

I haven't been drunk since 1998 so it looks like I may continue missing those great moments in history. Wink

Couldn't watch through Babarella either, ened up skipping through it. How did Jane Fonda ever get the reputation of being a great actress? She was awful and made John Phillip Law look good.

A is almost boobs
B are barely boobs
C is can't complain
D is Dang
DD Double Dang
E is enormis
F are fake
G is gross

Talking about bad sci-fi, every one ready for Sharknado on Syfy this week? Or would you rather go see the giant robot vs monster slap fight that is Pacific Rim?

No but I did catch a super nerdy chick radio personality promoting it just for the end scene of a guy doing the Luke skywalker/Tauntaun thing in reverse but with a chainsaw after a Great White swallowed him whole but then she was also promoting Pacific Rim as a must see too so who knows.
