Future on-line Cons

I think the Virtual Con last weekend was quite successful.  We had three great games that went quite well (At least the two I ran seemed to and I heard good reports about jedi's game as well.)  In fact, I think it went so well for our first attempt that I think we should do it again.  You of course may disagree.

This thread is to discuss if we want to do another one (or ones), how often to do them , what could be done different or better,  things you thought worked, things you thought that didn't, what else we could/should do at a con, etc.

Sound off!

I'm all for more Con's. :-)

For non-con games:
I've always intened to run weekly/bi-weekly games (like we did last year) and have a warhorn account specifically setup for Star Frontiers which will be linked to the Star Frontiersman Google+ page. These are to draw from various RPG crowds that are already playing online (G+, ConstantCon, etc).
We need to broaden the player pool to make sure games are filled.

I am for a second con.  Now that I have experienced playing on-line I am willing to GM a game.  I get the capability of the tools and with preparation I could GM.  My thoughts on Saturday were, "This is great, we should have a second con this year because it is the 30th year."  Could we get a semiannual SF virtual con established?

My thoughts on the games.  All three were great.  How would I improve them?  Well, a con game of three hours is a good length.  The game should be a narrow scope episode with GM and NPC guided plot and goals.  That way the players don't spend an hour figuring out what to do with a couple dominating and the others just waiting for the action.  Jedion had some great thoughts about this in conversation after the second game.  However, the thrid game that TerlObar did was a blast for the players to think their way through it and make a solid play before just storming the ship and dying.  This was a great roll play experience and TerlObar GM'd in great.  Another thing that was great was pre-generated characters so that the GM could know what to expect in a three hour block.

So to reiterate, I am for a semiannual con and I am ready to GM a session in the next con.

Are ppl only interested in playing/running during a Con?
So, you are happy with playing twice/three times a year?

No.  But it took a lot of scheduling to get just the time for the con free.  And even then I had interruptions.  I simply don't seem to have time for a regular play session right now.  At least not anything longer than an hour at a time.  And I definitely don't think I could run a regular campaign.  Too much real life happening.  Twice/three times a year is more playing than I get to do now. Cry

That's not to stop others from doing so but I at least can't do it right now.  I'd love to hear of regular SF gaming sessions going on.

I'd love to play more but reality is that I'd have to schedule events like the con.  Real life really takes a lot of time.

I'm in for another Con. My schedule fluctuates so it is hard for me to commit time to play regularly. Also I work nights.

LIke to see another con but scheduling is also a problem for me. Never now when people will drop by and steal me away.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

I'm thinking to schedule the next one for mid September.  That way we don't interfere with Larry going to Con on the Cobb and it is still 6 months away.  That should give us time to all schedule it in and to get more advertising out.  Or is September just as bad as October.  I agree that Nov and Dec is out due to all the holidays.

September works for me for all weekends other than the 21st.  I know there is a three day weekend in September but I will be home for it.  Likely many others will be gone for labor day weekend.

I was thinking on the ride home that we should schedule some week night games.  I could run a Tuesday night 6pm MDT game.  Not everyone has the same work week.  I have a brother in Vegas that has Monday and Tuesday off and I might be able to persuade him to participate in a Tuesday night game.  He works nights so 5pm PDT would be his wake up time.

I'd be up for a regular-ish game (maybe every other week or once a month) during the week.  I have a more flexible schedule Tuesday-Thursday evenings (Pacific time, unfortunately, which might not work for many time zones).  Oh, Wednesdays work too because I work out of my home office, and after 3pm it's really, really boring. ;)

Want to get to a Con too, September might work, Labor day is bad because there is an Anime Con in town that weekend.  I was 96% sure I could make the last weekend's virtual con, but parenting duties ended up filling up the whole weekend, and I didn't even register. :(  I was there in spirit though!  In the form of energizing caffeine.

I am on Pacific Time too, so anyone want to get together once a month I am in for those times. I work nights and sleep sometimes. I think September for the Con would be good. If I have enough notice I can switch weekends with my counterpart.

Let's just start picking days and see what can be done.

Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Just a thought if we do one in the Fall, lets make it KHs themed. Actual board game play via a online table top- we have six months to iron that out, tech wise. Plus GM s could run AD style action during a star ship battle , 10 minute turns allow a PC to move to almost any location in the ship and do one thing/major action. Much of the combat is actually abstracted in the way the original Star Trek RPG did. Could have a scratch built KHs miniatures contest with voting during the con. Could also talk to Spyder again about his miniatures ships- one of his original designs could be "the patch" for the convention, though I'd say go with the patch design that we already have but with different lettering around the border.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Proposed theme: In the Fall of Knight- plays off the fact that con2 is in fall and that its Knight Hawks themed. Individual GMs could also play with that theme by having an under current or some such in their game about a fallen champion- another play on words.
