Going in new directions

Over the past few days since I got back I started making a bit of progress on the "Zebulon's guide to the Frontier: The core Worlds" guidebook, but the words of a friend keep coming back to haunt me. During a discussion Brian basically said that without Adventures there realy isn't a game, and the truth of that statement has been bugging me ever since. I've been so wrapped up in producing rules, and supplemental material for the game but what good is it all if there's nothing to do with it?

If you bring out supplement after supplement but leave it up to individual Administrators to do all the work of figuring out how to use that material without some kind of examples, not only is that a disservice to the individual, but it will generally turn off that person. I think that was one of the failures of the D20 modern, and d20 future line, they focused on rules and suplemental guides, but offered very few modules (if any) to support the systems, leaving it in the hands of the gamer to do that, and as most of us know, most gamers have a lot of real life concerns and can't spend a lot of time designing a campaign whole cloth.

Anyway I think that though I am going to get the Zebs guide and the other planned supplements for the Star Frontiers (URS), and other URS projects out, I'm going to put a bit more energy towards Adventure writing and bringing out some Adventures using these rule sets. Some of course be adaptations of established Adventures, but I'll hopefully put together a few original ones as well.

I think my goal in this and any project I've undertaken over the years I've devoted to gaming has always been to see others enjoying the fruits of my labors, and though I don't think that this rule set will ever become as big or popular as the games that inspired it, I want those who decide to take it out for a test drive to have fun with it, and maybe it'll be good enough for one or two of you out there to add it to your gaming schedule. If that ever happens it would justify the countless hours I've devoted to these games, and the arguements, and relationships that my obsession has put a strain on or broken because of this obsession.

Of course as always I welcome anyone in this community who might have an idea or two or might want to add something into this project to not shy away from trying it, or even just discussing it, this projects is as much yours as it is mine, so please feel free to join in on the fun.

Just a quick update. Real life concerns have cropped up since I got back to New York and so I haven't really been able to put in a full day towards continueing the project. I did manage to complete several more star systems, bringing the total number of Core systems that have been dealt with to 36. I do not want anyone to start getting nervous about the future of this project, I will try my best to get new material out for you enjoyment as soon as I can, but I don't want to put out stuff that is rushed and unfinished.

Please bear with me.
