Salvaging the Plague Worlds

This is my intro to the Salvage Crew game or at least my first attempt at it.

Basic Storyline

17-27FY The Blue Plague sweeps the Frontier. Scientists believe it was brought to the Sundown system by an alien vessel that crashed on Starmist. Because of Starmist's light population, the plague was not immediately detected and had a chance to mutate. It is believed that vermin from the planet became infected and somehow gained entry to a ship. The ship makesseveral stops on the Frontier and the plague spreads rapidly. It is called the Blue Plague because of its earliest symptoms -- large blue welts that appear about the face and extremities. These welts leave horrible black scars even if the victim survives the plague.

20FY Four star systems become so infested with the Blue Plague that the Council of Worlds, the diplomatic organization of the UPF, requests all races to recognize a permanent quarantine of these four star systems. The systems are designated by Greek letters. A spaceship seen leaving one of these systems is to be destroyed by Spacefleet before it has a chance to spread the plague any further.22FYHargut, Pale, and Gollywog suffer massive population losses due to the Blue Plague. All three planets are temporarily quarantined.
23FY The Medical Services Organization is founded. Funding pours in from most of the Frontier worlds. Gretl Grohn is named as the MSO Chief Surgeon.24FY Vaccine for the Blue Plague is discovered at the MSO Center on Morgaine's World.25FYThe Mechanon menace on Volturnus first comes to the UPF's attention, but cannot be dealt with because of the Blue Plague.27FY The Blue Plague is eradicated from inhabited planets in the Frontier. In total, 17 million victims fell to the plague.
35FY After several years of law suits and petitioning of several government bodies by everyone from individuals to megacorporations over the rights to reclamation of property and salvage of the trillions of credits Star Law and the MSO establish space stations in each plague system to control and monitor the recovery of property.Current FY“Sit down ya empty bags and let me see if I can fill them a little for ya.” The grizzled oldster said to the group walking into the bar on Delta’s Recovery Station.“Don’t look hurt boys and girls and buds, anyone can tell your new to the salvage game. Ya just ain’t dirty enough. All newbies are called empty bags since ya never filled them down on the surface. I see your wearing Pan-Gal patches. So your corporate crew. That’s OK I don’t hold any special grudge against ya. But most of the crews here are independents and they do hold a grudge against you Corp Crews, so be careful who ya talk to.”After taking a sip of the refilled mug the oldster continued, “Now I’m sure ya seen the holos of the brave salvage crews making a rich strike at the abandoned Landfleet base. Well forget it never gonna happen. The Gov-earn-mint don cleaned them out long before they even finished this station. Now don’t get all depressed like there is still lots to make your fortunes with.”“I see your confused so drink up while Iyes straighten you out. Being Corp you have probably had specal training in recovering all that big inventory your people left down there when they died in Blue droves and ya might find some factories to salvage and they might even belong to Pan-Gal but really your gonna go after the other valuables down there.”“What valuable you ask? Iyes hope you been watching the holo series Ancient Roadshow, Vrusk Pickers, Junkyard Spacers, Storage Pod Wars and the like. That is where the real credits are not looking for experiment power suits in secret labs. Oh and don’t forget the data. Lots and lots of computers down there with lots and lots of bytes to download; everything from spice perfume recipes to corporate shipping manifests to last will and testaments all really valuable.”“Now look around ya a bit and at my sparkling mug. Not everyone here is on a crew. Plenty of contractors here too. Beings who had relatives or work for a company who can’t afford their own crews or well just want something from the surface and have the credits to pay for what they want. Could be a picture of grandma and grandpa or the statue from a hotel lobby. Ya’ll might take some side contracts to git it.”“What do ya mean why do they hire ya instead of just getting it themselves? Are ya dumb? Ya did watch those holovids about salvage crews. Some things were actually toned down like what ya up against. There are lots of things down there that don’t want to see ya come back with the goods. Wildlife gone completely wild with some species that ya have to see to believe and gangs of survivors either the walking brain dead or those that settled in later and don’t want anyone taking what they say is all theirs. A lot of those are Vimh. Don’t know if they survived the plague better or just moved in later but there are entire towns of them living down there. Oh and don’t forget the robots. Lots of them still down there and programmed to stop ya from taking anything.”“What’s the worst Iyes ever faced down there? Why that’s an easy one. Other salvage crews of course. Ya you got your license and your claim and you have the right to be there but ya think that stops others from trying to take it from ya? What do you think all those big guns and ammo are for, Pirates? You have to fight to keep what ya find down there and more often than not it will be the beings in this very bar. Up here ya laugh and joke and drink together. Down there even crews from your own Corp will try and take what ya are going after from ya.”

“So drink up and enjoy ya selves tonight. Tomorrow ya might be trying to kill each other. Ah ya did say ya were going down tomorrow right? Abouts where did ya say ya were going I might know something abouts the area which could help ya. Always happy to help empty bags when Iyes can.”

Comment away beings and I will put up more about the conversion of the Salvage Crew game to Star Frontiers here when I get up to it.
