I picked up a copy of this book out of curiosity, and was quite surprised by the usefulness of the matrial within. the book is light on Gurps mechanics, being more a source book for creating Scifi campaigns then a game manual. the book continually references great Science fiction novels and is geared towards the creation of more or less hard science fiction campaigns but with a space opera feel (Like Traveller or SF). I think if you can find it it makes for a good read and some of the material screams Star Frontiers.

I have a copy of the 2nd edition of that book for the very same reason.    (I have no idea which version of GURPS it corresponds to but my GURPS: Space book was printed in 1990Smile)

I have found several of the Gurps books to be very interesting resources for Scifi games. the Transhuman books are interesting, though the tech is definately much higher than what is available in SF, and the Ultra tech book is good as well, though it too deals with technologies unattainable at present in SF. these however can be used as resources for the ultra tech artifacts of any precursor races in the campaign. I haven't read their Spaceship guide, but it looks intersting as well.

I've also been looking over the older Traveller books, and though I was never a fan of their mechanics, or some of their non human races (the Lion people in particular) there's a lot of good stuff in those books, as was mentioned in another post.

4th Edition GURPS Space does away with most of the GURPS mechanics and SF gear, including spaceship construction, so that pages previously tied up in duplicating material founds in other GURPS sourcebooks/worldbooks could be used to instead provide more source materiel and tips for running a SFRPG campaign.

Incidentally, GURPS:Space first edition was orginially written for the first and second editions of the game, with subsequent printings of Space 1e being revised for third edition, while the second and third editions of GURPS: Space were written for the third edition of GURPS.

" 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, for lust, for greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death."
