DROWlasites

Yep, I've finally lost my mind I fear. Was up waaaaaay too late last night working on new races to incorporate into my campaign, and conjured up THIS one: DROWlasites! Sort of an anti-Dralasite player or non-player character. If you go to my SF site, then to the 'new alien races' link, I think you'll agree that my Happy Meal is missing the toy and perhaps a few of the fries too. Foot in mouth

Very cool!

Is the sleep touch 5% the chance the drowlasite makes toxin?

Frontier alien anthropologists have yet to determine whether a Drowlasite naturally developes the ability to increase the use of its sleep toxin over time, or if the ability increases automatically through repeated use. The toxin is certainly present in all Drowlasites, but learning to utilize it successfully is more of a learned behavior like a Dralasite's lie detection ability. Money mouth

Maybe it's produced in a gland and the ability is used to "shift" the toxin to the hands.
Undecided

Made mention of this race in Issue 15. I bet most Star Frontiers readers will think it's a typo. LOL

Lol, hope they don't think it's a typo. Thanks for the issue 15 plug. Your idea of the toxin being produced by a gland and then shifted (based on ability) makes sense. Was thinking that the sleep touch was too simular to the vulcan neck pinch for taking out guards and such, but then again, can you imagine Mr. Spock missing his neck pinch ability roll? The guard would look at him and say, "what exactly are you trying to do if you don't mind me asking?" Money mouth

Jeez drow, I completely forgot about your SF handle when I was naming the Drowlasites! My apologies!

I mean, I was originally planning to call the race "wOOtlasites" (actually that's not half bad now that I think about it), but was also thinking "umungusites", "Shadow Shacklites", "jedionlites", "rattravelerlites", "Sargonarhesites", or even possibly "Max_Writerlites". But Drowlasites is the one I went with in the end.
This doesn't mean I have to pay royalties now or anything , does it?Cool

Reminds me of the time I made D&D miniature cards for my game buddies. Tell you what, if we make up some stats I'll make printable stat cards like this; FuddYaz drop trooper

So do their adamantite laser rifles exposed to unique radiation in their homeworld offer "non-magical plusses"?

@wOOt: Those game cards rock! Honestly, I'm continuously amazed by the seemingly endless talents of the SF folks that post on this site. I mean that.

@drow: Um, hope to gawd you accept frontier credits (Cr.) cuz I live on PPJ's here mostly.

@Rum Rogue: Laughing HOW did I not see that one coming?

@Shadow Shack: I'm not sure what adamantite is, but I know I like laser rifles. Money mouth

Adamantite is the metal alloy that the drow elves use to fabricate their weapons. Very similar to adamantium, which is what Wolverine's skeleton was coated in. Wink

ahhh, I see. I'ts been so long since I played AD&D, I forgot about that. The Drow will always be a pretty kool race to have in a campaign whether they be elvish or blobish. They're just eeeeevvvviiiiillll. Actually, I should dust off my ol' AD&D Monster Manual and re-edu-ma-cate* myself about the Drow.

Well, save yourself the effort of dusting off the Monster Manual. The Drow were detailed in the G, D, & Q series AD&D modules (and there might have been a brief description at the end of A4 as well, there's a female drow amongst the slavers' at their galley in the final encounter).

I recently revisited them as I just got done doing a conversion of the Drow for the B/X boxed set rules, as well as a G/D series rewrite for the same rules.

Hmm...Somehow I keep thinking of this sketched picture I remember of a Drow in elvish armor holding his fist up in front of him (in anger). The armor almost looked like samurai/flash gordon fashion, pointed at the shoulders, long trapezoidal flap in front of his drowish privates. Long hair combed back. Could have sworn it was in the monster manual (part 2 maybe?). If I can find that pic, I can whip out my MS Paint, and put a Dralasite body in that armor. Cool

Going back to the original point. I like the race and they fit in with the attempted theme of a precursor race who seeded the Sathar and S'sessu and possibly the Vrusk and Zuraqqor. Maybe we will see the "dark" humans and Yazirians sometime in the future.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

A Frontier anti-verse seems like a new writeup. Sathar, master of genetics tweaking the core four. Reminds me some-what of the urviles tweaking people in Thomas Covenant:Unbeliever series.

I could go the full anti-verse way with my campaign here, but of course the ol' Captain had waaay too much time again ("waaay" = reduced sleep time), and I banged out a few more new races. Displayed as two pages of four races each, I think it came out pretty decent.

If you're up to a brief but dangerous scouting mission, go to my mighty fine SF website and see for yourselves. If you survive, report back to to me here and tell me that I've gone completely mad. Foot in mouth

I don't think so Georgie. The Dralasite is probably at a space bar with some friends, and he's calling the waiter over for another rounds of drinks. The waiter's name just happens to be @!#%. Cool
