Working on the layout and I'm totally g33ked about this issue. Not only the submission but the conversations about robots, vrusks, dralasites and adventure writing !!
I think I'm going to burst with goodness! Smile  Here's a sneak peak;

Chemical Drives
 - great stuff for early Frontier technology

Knight Hawks Expanded
 - nifty optional rules

Character Generation Tables
 - more stuff to flesh our your character, now with gravity!

Adventure Bots! Part 2
 - What You Really Need to Know About Roleplaying Robots

Cyberbionics
 - a huge system for adding metal, gadgets and gear to your character. In my opinion the more metal the better!  :-)

Dralasite & Vrusk Ablative Sheets

Psych Profiles
 - consistency compass to help you make decisions for your character

Core Four Part II
 - the other two races

Equipment
 - lots of stuff here

Frontier News
 - University of Zebulon archaeologists narrowly escape death
 - Interview with an old spacer

Locations
 - Point True

Remastered
 - Yachts and Privateers Return

Adventure!
 - Adventure concepts
 - Liberation of Volturns

Game Report
 - The Dominion

...and more

Some thigs YOU can do to help

Use the above list to get inspired to write and draw for Issue 15. Start now says Grumpy Man Yell hehe!

Consider volunteering to help with;
  • drawing a picture
  • browsing for free artwork
  • getting permission to use artwork (devianart)
  • sending reminders to submitters
  • posting and asking for content on RPG sites
  • creating line art for equipment
  • layout one or two articles that are received from the submission process (requires word 2003)
  • announce the release of an issue on RPG sites
  • be a community interface at sf.org, sf.us, sf.info and sf-un

Depending on the type of article (equipment, rules, fiction, adventure) I can't make any promises.
I try to balance each issue and if I get a lot of certain types (equipment is a biggie) I don't put every single article in. I'd exhaust the queue. :-)

I hope you all understand. Embarassed

Off Topic: Here's is an idea I thought of for my own adventure writing. Consider submitting a new piece of technology within the framework of an adventure. It appeals to me because Referee's can see how the technology is used in the game. I'm considering this for artifacts.

Sounds cool Woot! Looking forward to the next issue.

Hey if people need some graphic type art for their article, I could maybe do something for them. Just message me.

At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy......

umungus - What would you think if I expanded the submission rules to include something like;

If you need help with a submission (maybe it's not fleshed out), rule testing or artwork we have volunteers that are standing by ready to assist. All you need to do is ask.

Sounds good.

By the way, I thought you said it was robot-themed? Could you tell me what dictionary you're using for the term "theme"? Tongue out

There is another thing I need to add to my list of stuff I do.
Coordinate artwork. :-)

The art I'm waiting on is due out 'dis weeks! I won't mention who owes the art -- that would be tacky, right Bill? And jedion (moore on than off) has a surprise for us.

As always remember to Foot in mouth

How about an "Encounter Corner" going forward? Kinda like what Dungeon was doing for awhile where you build a random encounter, include NPC's, tactics, etc. That would be helpful.

Excellent suggestion dj2145.

I believe in upcoming issues you will see more "encounter" type submissions.

Check out the Adventure! and Location section.
It's possible to combine those with Archetypes and Adversaries to build an encounter.

By the way, the index looks good, but you don't have to feature my name and put yours incidentally. I started it, but I won't be keeping it up. Since you will be keeping it up, your name deserves to at least be on par with mine if not superceding it.

4 months and counting.

The offer is still open to do some editing and the layout for upcoming issues.

I don't know why Larry didn't announce it here (although it is on the main page which I rarely visit Smile) but Issue 14 is out at the Star Frontiersman website and I'm working on getting the articles online on the Star Frontiers Network Wiki.

Sorry to be a pain, Larry. But apparently I had the critique right before on my image. On all the other images in other issues, they come out pretty, but for my image, it has to be reduced down to 54.2% before it looks right. At 100% it completely pixels out. But then I looked at the images for the rest of the magazine, and I see the same problem exists for them. However, if compared to issue #13, that issue is pretty crisp. Why the difference?

Apparently these library computers pixelate the PDF images beyond recognition. Also, I think perhaps the smaller, older image was used. Both contributed to a not so great viewing. I apparently didn't give you the updated image. I'm sorry for that. I have linked it. I am sorry for any inconvenience.

Also, I apparently forgot my Word file, so I will have to present my other subject of discussion tomorrow.

Ascent,
The image I have is very large - 1.7MB jpg file.
I have not figured out why Word in combination with the PDF Printer chops up images. It appears some images are fine while others are pixelly. I moved your image around on the cover to not chop off the head.

I can try again - waiting for more ppl to point out errors before I revise.

converting the jpg to png format also may help prevent any distortion when resizing, moving, and croping as png freezes the image and helps prevent distortion.

Okay. I will redo it in png. As for pdfcreator, I use the same program, so I will see what it does with my settings. If my settings prove better, I will send you instructions on setting yours.

Thanks
