Star Frontiers Wiki

Hello folks,

Not to long ago, I found an abandoned Wiki for Star Frontiers. It lacked a lot of info on background content, so I stated editing it. As it so happened, another user - Zeb Ulon - was doing the same thing. Discovering that it lacked an Administrator (or other users), we decided to adopted the Wiki. We are now co-administrators of the site, and we are working hard to make it an information hub for the Star Frontiers setting. Everyone is welcome to join in and edit.

With the availability of the rules and adventures on a number of sites, rules for official content is not as important as background material. If you have something unique to offer - even if its just rules - then you are more then welcome to share (and don't forget to give yourself credit).

Didn't Gergmaster start that site?

http://www.starfrontiers.org/forum/default.asp
has background info buried in the forums. Currently there are some users starting to give life to Port Loren by taking a building or area and doing a write-up. (Great idea!) http://www.starfrontiers.info/archive/ has old SF sites with lots of goodies. Jedion has some very good info in his online game - Clarion Royal Marines

I believe the front page of that site has the old SF mail-list from 1995? onward. Lots of goodies in there I bet.

Make sure you add the site to the LINKS page if it's not already there. Additionally send in a announcement to http://starfrontiersman.com/contact/submissions for the next issue.

Yeah I have not been on the wiki in a long time. Not many people were actually interested in putting one together. So it fell apart. I wanted to add lots of new canon and original canon to the wiki to help in the SF revival. Hey I think I might just start going back there. Thanks...

Does that wiki support some type of layout (visual identification) when your viewing content that is cannon vs user contributed content (like the star frontiersman articles)?

I got into the wiki to add canon stuff (you never know then you when you what to look something up quickly) and to also add some home brewed stuff.

When Zeb and I worked on the Clarion Royal Marines article, we just cut & paste text from The Warriors of White Light module, but I also added some extra, non-canon stuff to the fold. Anyone not familiar with that book would not know that some of the ranks, and the most of the rank pins are unofficial. But I guess that is what I really wanted; articles that are based on official content, and goes beyond a dry "cut & paste" format.

I would personally love to see Star Frontiersman content on the wiki. The Revival has done much justice to the old SF line, and I see a lot of fantastic works, with a lot of fresh ideas.

The wiki is super easy to manage and fun, you can add to some of the canon material there (over 200 entries so far!) or put some of your own material, designs, adventures there.  Tie it together with a few links and it will grow on its own... http://starfrontiers.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Wow I am surprised by the number of entries! I remember when I started it and now....(Gergmaster is speechless at the moment, might come up with more to say later)...

Q - I'm uploading my Theseus/Minotaur system brief ( http://starfrontiers.wikia.com/wiki/Theseus ), how do you upload pics? I have a tetrahedral map of the planet itself along with a space-view of the world too.

Also, I'm trying to add Chemical Drives to the Equipment Guide, but it seems to be creating its own category outside the guide instead. What's the trick for this?
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

Hi, Shadow Shack, thanks for your addition to the Wiki, it adds a lot and is great to see it growing. To add a picture, first save it and then when you edit an entry at the top of the page you will see "Insert", the first icon is for inserting a picture and you should be ok from there...about your second point..there is no tick, just make a new entry as you like and then after it is saved at the bottom you will see "Add Category" just type in "Equipment" and it will be clear...hope that helps...

Cool stuff. :-)

I noticed that you can create a magazine from articles on Dead Space wiki. Can we do that with the SF wiki as well? I was thinking a Ref could pull material for an adventure and print it so it's in a mini-book.

Hi! Yes, I just had a look and it is possible to make a magazine.  One merely chooses the articles they want to include and then roll it into a magazine. I am not sure if it only limited to admins however, I think any member could do it. The functionality seems to come via an advert on the wiki page. Also since I have not done it, I am not sure if it freely avaliable or if somehow the company which has the mag software controls the publishing rights. Something to think about in the future for sure however...

Cool on the pics, I'll play around with this more on my day off. I got a slew of house rules etc in the wiki here and on my hard drive too (I see an item or two was ported over already...cool to know others dig my stuff LOL).

The Chem Drive still doesn't seem to be sticking...

Hiya,

Great, the more you (and others!) could put there, the richer it will be. I had a look at the Chem Drive page you made, it seems to be more of a category then an actual entry. Usually I just make pages and then add category to it at the end to help people searching. Here is a page on space drives (http://starfrontiers.wikia.com/wiki/Spaceship_Drives), maybe you can use that to build links to chem drive..

I have been doing this and that over the holiday weekend, so I have not been to the Wiki lately. In my absence, there have been a ton of new articles and updates (mostly from Zeb), and some new users - plus the original user. Things are looking nice!

I also been getting some updates about a second SF wiki, but it looks like a clone-site. I don't really understand this, and I think I'll stay nested at the original wiki - sorry.

Keep up the good work everyone, and thanks for coming back Gergmaster! :D

Update: The page count hit the big 300!

Much of the surge was do to the inclusion of some 30 creatures from the Alpha Dawn book, and Crash on Volturnus (with thanks to some strong caffeinated drinks, habitual insomnia, and using some obscure wiki as my playground). My intention is to add canon martial for easy reference (as apposed to having to load-up net-books, or having to jump around a bunch of online pages), as well as show off house-ruled, and non-canon martial.

The following Templates have been added: Monster Stats; Race; and Ship. By choosing them, you can full-out the need information without heavy coding, and it would create a nice uniformed stat blocks. If you don't have the info at hand, just put any number or letter in each entry, as unfilled entries will not show up, and you can fill the right info during editing. Templates are tricky to learn, but easy to use once you get the hang of them. Just press Templates in the Insert bar, and click "Other template / magic word", and you will find a Template Editor screen with a search bar and commonly used templates.

I also added some stats for spaceships, as seen in Knight Hawks rule books and modules, adjusted much of the Categories (it still a bit of a mess, but a major improvement from what it was), and all of the races are are illustrated.

Might be a silly request but can you post the link to the site. I just keep getting the basic wiki page when I go there.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Great job - the site is so full of content!
@Rat - I couldn't find the templates myself but I think the site requires a login.
The main pages are a drop down on top of the site, make sure to scroll down to see sub-categories.

The links to the templates are:
The top table show the layout, and the lower coded list is what you use during editing (if you just what to quickly cut-n-paste the code).

Sorry if the site is hard to navigate through. Ever since the wiki provider gone with the new layout, it has been harder to work with, and finding everything you need has been a pain in the ass!

By the way, in the "We are currently editing over 300 articles. Anyone can edit and you can join." text at the front page, "currently editing" links up to recent changes at the site, "300 articles" show all of the pages on the SF wiki, "Anyone can edit" shows how you can edit the wiki, and "you can join" is a sign-up link.

I have been somewhat neglectful of the wiki, as I have been working on a ton of other Wikis. Over a span of 3 or 4 months, there have been 17 or so anonymous comments completely unrelated to the articles they were posted in. A number of them were pulled off fanfics, and one of them was form a My Little Pony fan-fic (who else would say "everypony" or "everybrony" in place of "everbody"?). I read the whole batch to find legitimate comments, but I end-up killing them all. -_-'

Oh, I also added new some stuff, like Fighter Pilots for the Royal Marines - a largely brash and egotistical lot. Check it out when you guys have a chance.
