Not so alien races as Humans take a page from the eorna

Inspired by the David Brin books of his Uplift saga

Background: there is a wide galactic society of races that all were found by another race and uplifted to sentience and then worked off a period of indentured servitude as a client race. centuries go by till the "wolfling" human race is discovered without having been uplifted by anyone (which greatly pisses off the more conservative of the races out there who very strongly feel that humans should be assigned to one of them and fulfill the standard client status) humans bumble along and begin to experiment with uplift of first chimps then dolphins which also pisses off some of the older races. Cause a parent custodian race gets to develope and control the evolution of the client and the client gets no say- so that these races really want to reassign humans, chimps, dolphins, and other earth animals to themselve (its one of the few things many of them can aggree upon amongst themselves) they're a great set of books though most of the glactics have tech that is way beyond SF while the humans are struggling at about SF tech and desparately trying to get more.

Anyway why wouldn't humans experiment with chimps and dolphins and uplift? presuming they came to the Frontier with them? (I don't subscribe to the cannon AD explanation of human presence in the Frontier)
they could have taken a page from the eorna on that score.

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Short answer: Because Humans have enough sentient competition without creating their own.

Longer answer: Same as the short answer, except the uplifited species aren't going to be content with staying client races for very long, especially considering they've been at the mercy of humanity for millenia(especially the chimps, who've been subjected to animal expiriements of varying nastiness)....

The chimps and dolphins' answer: We uplifted Humanity about six thousand years ago. It's generally considered the biggest f*king mistake ever made by an intelligent species on Earth.

Even the grey alien dudes took one look at what we did and could only say,"you stupid SOBs," over and over as they shook their heads, before going back to the Sulaco to nuke the planet from orbit.

Just to be sure.Smile

"You're everything that's base in humanity," Cochrane continued. "Drawing up strict, senseless rules for the sole reason of putting you at the top and excluding anyone you say doesn't belong or fit in, for no other reason than just because you say so."
